Comic Exodus (or, I've left Comic Genesis)
Comic Exodus (or, I've left Comic Genesis)
For a while now I have wanted to do things that I couldn't readily do here. Over Spring Break, I finally wrote enough PHP and Perl code to hold my site together. Since I own the domain, I just pointed it at the different server. The site has not split apart at the seams, so I am not apt to come back to Comic Genesis.
I just wanted to drop into the forums to say 'Thanks' to all ya'll. I migth still be around the forums now and again.
Also-- should I do something to shut down my old Comic Genesis site? or does it matter?

Nah, it doesn't matter. You could even keep it as a mirror site if you wanted to.fecundity wrote:Also-- should I do something to shut down my old Comic Genesis site? or does it matter?

Ooh. Comic Deuteronomy. I hear they're pretty violent over there. I've always been curious about them.Joel Fagin wrote:That's the only one I didn't design the website for, actually. And the crowd over at Comic Leviticus is waaaaaaay too judgemental. I can't stand those douchebags.Black Sparrow wrote:Ooh. Comic Deuteronomy. I hear they're pretty violent over there. Anyway, good luck, fecundity! (Does this mean I have to alter my link to "NInja Vs." now? Oh, pooh...)
I do realize that this does not mean I will be shunned in the forums. I just wanted to mention it, and also ask if there was anything I had to do from the CG end.
Nope. The old URLs should all either have pages or forward to pages. (If anyone finds a URL that is broken, let me know and I'll see about gluing it back together.)Nanda wrote:(Does this mean I have to alter my link to "NInja Vs." now? Oh, pooh...)
No offense, but I don't understand why anyone who doesn't have a major comic leaves ComicGenesis. It's not like you have the traffic to support yourself by advertisements. Is the lure of PHP really that strong?
Well, at least you know you won't accidentally stumble upon a shonen-ai comic.Nanda wrote:And the crowd over at Comic Leviticus is waaaaaaay too judgemental. I can't stand those douchebags.

Good luck with the new site--I hope it leads to all sorts of great things
But I have a question.... I started my comic(s) on my own website (which I still maintain), then mirrored one my comics here just to join the community, to play with the automatic update system, to be part of the gestalt, to have one more way of folks finding me, and so forth. Surely that's not considered a step backward, is it?
Banner ads aside, is being on CG, on Webcomicsnation, or on your own ISP reallly considered a reflection on the professionalism of one's comic? A URL is just a URL, n'est-ce pas? Or am I naive to the ways of the world?

Thanks for the wellwishing.
Also, I enjoy programming. For me it was like a home improvement project. There was only so much remodelling I could do while using space on Comic Genesis. (For example, I can now put the navigation buttons in the model of a day's content.)
Oddly, this is the most successful thread I've ever started on these forums. Perhaps I should leave more often.
To be clear: I don't think switching to or from Comic Genesis hosting will change the gravitas of my comic-- neither of my readers really care. Having my own webspace does not make me any more mature or professional.Banner ads aside, is being on CG, on Webcomicsnation, or on your own ISP reallly considered a reflection on the professionalism of one's comic?
I wanted to be able to have two comic titles running at the same time, with the most current comic (whichever that is) appearing on the front page. I already had automated archives and an RSS feed, so it saved some trouble to have one script handle everything. No offense, but I don't understand why anyone who doesn't have a major comic leaves ComicGenesis. I totally understand having your own site. For me I've had the dreamersink.com domain for 7 or more years, I don't remember it's been along time. I like having the freedom to do what I want when I want with anything I want. And finally, I never new aboot comic gen or other sites until late last year. Besides programing is Fun!
