Comic Rankers kicked my butt!

Post by Uncaringmachine »

Ouch. I got a C from Comic Rankers. Kinda puts a smudge on the ol' ego, but I guess my comic isn't perfect. Far from it actually. I suppose that's what you get when you want to be reviewed right? Anyone else up for review by them?
I just wish they had given a detailed review instead of just a's b's and c's.....oh well......

Thumbs down on Comic Rankers. It's just an E-Peen thing. One real review is worth more than 100 "rankings".

Yeah. If a site will take a look at your comic and tell you their impressions, what you're doing wrong and (more importantly) advice on how to improve then that's great.

If they just give you a "rank" (a letter is not a rank, it's a grade. If they said "you are the 234th coolest comic out of 2,946 comics" then that's a rank) then how do you know that they actually looked at your comic, or looked at more than just the index? Did they even put any effort into it or just asign it at random?

Just ignore them, they're not worth your time since you're actually creating something artistic rather than just commenting on the work of others.

Ehn...

...I was going to submit mine for laughs, but you have to put a button on your site...I can't be bothered.

Yeah. Adding a link to them from my site for them to be bothered giving me a look...

...nah.

I'd use more forceful language, but this is a G rated comic.

I was thinking of trying it a while back, but if Gothy McGee managed to get a bad grade, I don't have much of a chance.

comic rankings aren't a litmus test for how GOOD a comic is, neither is a single review, regardless of quality or lack thereof.

with the whole ranking systems like buzzcomix and topwebcomics, one doesn't look at their highest number and think that their comic is this, that, or something else.

high numbers are immaterial, what one has to look at is the overall consistency of those numbers, for instance, my own comic's been as high as the top #200 comics in topwebcomic's listings, right now, it's hovering around the 200-250 mark, and has been like that for a few months.

so a singular negative mark shouldn't affect how you strive to do things..
just shrug off the negativity, and laugh at it.

besides, vote rankings shouldn't tell you how many people read your comic, that's what the stats page is for.

Hmm. Some of the comics they gave high grades are interesting to read. But I tend to agree with the general consensus here...the grade would only be beneficial if it were accompanied by a review.

Maybe I'd submit if I were bored. But then I'd get all obsessive about it.

Well, I think there's more then one person who runs it, and as such it depends on who you get that'll determine your rank. I did it awhile ago, and even though it's not even remotely thorough, at least it gives you a slight glimpse as to what you should improve on, in their eyes. Since they have categories art, style, humour, story so on, that get their own 0-5 rank, and then the average of those is yer score.
Still, an actual review, yes would be ALOT better. It is truly, something you do if yer curious as to what a random person would think of yer comic, but then, that's what e-mail and shoutboes are for, right?

How do we know they've really read the comic? Eh? Eh?

Frankly, the whole deal sucks. I'm supposed to put the button on my site and promote their add, in exchange they do the ranking thing which, for all I know, could be taking them less than five minutes of work, but it's more important that they have a big, chinky add banner on their site already. So basically I'm promoting the commercial site which in exchange promises to maybe advertise mine, if it finds it good enough by some undefined standards.
Not worth it. If I was putting a button for every tom dick and harry who offered nothing in return, I'd have no place for actual comic.
