Hm. Well, I have a co-author for the strip, because it's based off a 'Game' we've been playing for quite some time. So, in a sense the majority of the strip is already written, possibly for the next couple of years... a la:
So, this way, I go back and read our game archives and think about what a given scene would 'look' like.
It also means that I definitely let the character's write themselves. Sometimes I throw events at them, but most of the time, it's just... whatever they feel like doing. Sometimes it would be nice to have more control...

One of the best story-arcs I've thought of to date happened totally spur of the moment. I was sitting down to draw the story-line I though I was going to run with, but started drawing something completely different, which in the end, I think, really improved the flow.
But normally I write down my ideas on a piece of paper, as they come to me. I've written down ideas that may not come into play for a year or two.
Short synopsis: (A page, half a page, something like that.)
Storyboard at least a couple of pages ahead.
Draw the sucker.
Script the dialogue.
Color it.
Rinse. Repeat endlessly, or until your heart gives out.---Al
All mine are scripted ahead of time using a slightly modified version of the Academy Standard format for screenplays. I only do it that way because I am a film student and that format is the one that I am the most familiar with.
I come up with a script for a comic in my head about a day before I draw the comic. Occasionally I'll come up with a gag in advance and scribble it down on paper. I have an overarching story that's more of a guideline for where I want the comic to go than a set in stone story path.

Thank you? I drew, well, both icons myself actually, just gifted the other one to my co-writer who doesn't draw. But, that's from one of my favorite drawings of Rae/Raveyne.
