Wow, I was blogged Worst Webcomic Ever!

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

Umm. It ISN'T?
I confess I had the same thought when I first saw it. Well, except that I like OotS.

Ditto.

To the OP. I know that it hurts to have a spiteful blogger rip your comic to shreds, but he does have a point about her tits - they may not induce nightmares but they tend to sag. A central tenet of the genre of unlucky but headstrong heroins who keep getting groped, assaulted and losing their clothes is that they are hot and have gravity defying racks.

:D Thank you. But it doesn't matter if I drew good or still cut and paste or aped someone else's stick men. I don't think Jesslyn needs to draw like me to get better. And as far as his knock on my own talent, my only regret was not laying money down that I'd get that response ahead of time.

Jesslyn: You know, it's not the comic that bothers me. I like comics with half naked heroines just fine. I could even see myself enjoying your work if you got over a few hangups and improved your craft. I really do intend my criticism in a constructive spirit, otherwise I'd go write my own long review of your comic somewhere else for people to laugh at. Please. Take that blogger as a reality check. There is something wrong with your comic that your 200 creepy readers aren't telling you. Sometimes, you gotta get your honesty from a cruel stranger who owes you nothing.

I mean, seriously, you're a man who has no idea how to relate to women so you create one that you can poke and prod for your amusement and you compensate for it by identifying with her and making her unhappy about the world you've thrust her into. You are not frazzling the status quo. You're pretty darn average for a guy who writes fantasy on the internet.

LOL one of the first critiques I ever got were that the boobies in the comic all defied the laws of gravity. Now other people think they sag. I'll keep searching to find that middle ground.

This thread seems to be slipping into a large pit of fail.

Notably, as a girl, I found the comic to be in pretty poor taste, thus I'm gonna avoid it much like I avoid the top shelf of dirty magazines. You've got a target audience there, and generally it isn't gonna be an awful lot of people. That's how things go.

I agree. This thread has taken a downward spiral, which was completely unintended on my part. I was even trying to be polite throughout but after the 3rd attack I quit being polite. And I don't like not being polite. I'm always open for constructive criticism or positive advice but there's very little of it here. I never claimed to be great nor did I think everyone would like the comic. I consider myself a doodler but I like to draw. I use the webcomic as a reason to keep practicing. I didn't realize I was provoking people to get their hate-on. So maybe a mod can come lock the thread or better yet, just delete it since it is stirring animosity in the community.

Yeah, the bottom shelf is where the quality dirty magazines usually go.*

I'd never read Jesslyn Stormheart before, so I looked at a few pages and found, as I suspected, that it's not my kind of comic at all, which is not necessarily a knock against it, since my tastes in comics don't tend to jibe with most people's.

From what I saw, though, I think the potential target audience for this comic is bigger than what Komiyan predicts, because there seem to be a lot of people that aren't bothered by the kinds of things that Sortelli and some others were discussing earlier. I'll also point out that Jesslyn and my strip started out at about the same time, and he's got more readers than me. :shifty:

So, yeah, not really my kinda strip and I think a lot of the criticism is valid, but I'll wager that if the artist continues to improve on his(?) technique (and I already see some improvement between the first and most recent pages), that audience might be quite a lot of people.

*Um, from what I hear.

The hell you are and the hell there isn't. Sortelli gave you solid advice, but instead of thinking how you could apply it, you decided to sidestep it and show how firmly against critiques you actually are. No, you pulled out how many unique visits you got as some sort of proof that you don't need to change anything. You further put your shoulder against the criticism by saying that, well, it's not intended for everybody and how you're <strike>RAGING AGAINST THE MACHINE</strike> "frazzling the status quo"--which is just another variant on the "But it's my styyyyle" shield.

From Sortelli's first post, you have been on the defensive. Maybe it's because he said he doesn't like your comic, and you dismissed him because of that. I don't know, but don't go on and say you're "always open for constructive criticism" because this thread pretty much proves you aren't.

I will lock this thread, but not for the reasons you requested. It is being locked because no matter what anyone else says you will not listen. You will remain firmly rooted, unyielding and unchanging, writing off anything anyone could say. And I really dislike it when a topic goes around in great, big circles.
