Oh. I thought the copyright thing was a requirement on Comicgenesis . . .

I'm really surprised that people would actually steal from amateur webcomics. But I guess that makes sense, since pros can take them to court much more easily. Not that I'm expecting any of my stuff to get stolen . . . I hope not, anyway. . . Now I'm all freaked out . . . :o

And there's the whole "it'll never happen to me" thought that web amateurs have. In addition some of the "amateurs" around here could be pros with the skills they have.

The copyright at the bottom of my page actually means: If I see you using my pictures commercially, I'll be happy to sue. Then maybe I'll be able to say that I actually made money with this comic thing.

If I see you using them non-commercially, I will yell at you real loud.

I don't mind it when people sign or put a link somewhere largely unnoticeable in their comic, but it bothers me quite a lot when it's splashed right across the image as a horribly un-subtle watermark.

Personally, if someone can figure out a way to profit from my comics ... eh, go ahead. It's not like I've managed to do so, for the most part. Now, as for the stuff that *has* made me money ... that, I don't even post on the internet -- it's the best way to keep it safe.

when I first moved G'nerds2000 here I had to type out the copyright diddy on 75+ comics.

That day was excelent.

first question: Are you worth copying?

Penny Arcade seems to have a reason to copyright stuff.

I don't have a reason, but do.

Do you?

Does anyone want to copy your work?

If not, then don't worry.

When you get famouse and shit, then copyright. But from what I've seen it doesn't stop anything. It just gives you something to worry about.

People KNOW your work, and if it's popular, they KNOW where it came from.

The internet is thievery of images with every page view. If you opt to be here at all, then you opt to give it all away.

In the end, just trust that the genius get's recognized for where it originates.

making a penny on that genius...

Well, that's another story. :D

Then when they do at least people can easily find their way back to your site and either become readers or tell you about the theft. Otherwise they might just assume you made it for istealcomics.com.

Not that I do that....
That's the smartest idea that I've read in a while. I think I'll do it (although they could always blank it out).

This is the fatal flaw of your argument right there. Out of 100 people, only 5 are likely to have any sense.
