I had whole tests in Spanish where the only thing I got right was my name.
I didn't even get that much. Stupid "Spanish name" rule....
what's up with that, anyway? what makes a teacher think that you'll be more likely to learn a different language by forcing you to learn a different name as well?!?!?
Wow, that IS a pretty stupid rule. Only in America, I guess...
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.
I jumped ship on that program when it stopped being "Good morning Miss Bliss".
It was too unreal, anyway. No one talked using "like" every ten seconds, the way the young whippersnappers across the border do.

I never got the "Spanish name" thing. However, if I were to be teaching a Spanish class, I would require students to speak in a Spanish accent whenever they spoke English.
A webcomic so scrumptrelescent you can barely move.
And which "spanish accent" exactly? Chicano? Norther mexican? Chilean? argentine? One of the many that exist within that tiny territory known as Spain?

Silly Jex. There's only one way to speak Mexican. That's why I'm glad to be in America, where we have no accents.
On a serious note (more serious than the first have of this post, anyway), I appreciate the giving-names-consistent-with-the-language-you're-studying thing we do up here. Kinda puts you more in the culture that teeniest bit. And you're likely to learn new names that while you may not run into in the US are actually quite popular in other parts of the world.
I once had a dream that was like Knight Rider set in Germany (and the guy had a Toyota), if i ever get around to making a comic about that i would ideally have the speech bubbles in german with english "subtitles". But at the moment the dialouge would be restricted to "Hello" "Good evening" "Hospital" "Yes" "No" and "1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10"

I had a class in Spanish that was like that. They gave me the name 'Randolpho'. I said, "Now wait a damn minute..." but it was too late. If that's actually a common name in any Spanish speaking country I'd feel a tiny bit better. But I don't think it is. What a way to spend a school year. "Hey Ran-DOL-pho!" "How's it going, Ran-DOL-pho?"
It was not pretty.
Crossfire: "Thank you! That explains it very nicely, and in a language that someone other than a physicist can understand..."
Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.
"Data" is not the plural of "anecdote"

That name doesn't exist. The closest would be Rodolfo, which would make you Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer; still, no Randolfo. If you weren't so damn old, I'd say your teacher had seen too much Simpsons ("Senior Spielbergo", anyone?)
[EDIT] Ack, forgot Teh English Nazis took out all proper non-english punctuation from the forums.
