The Music Simulation Thread
okay so I promised onipire a while ago that I would upload a video of me playing a game.
but wether you play DDR, Beatmania IIDX or Guitar hero *and yes the game is a rip off not the other way around*. the purpose of this thread is too post our psudeo music skills.
I'll post my video after this thread starts running.

I can hum and whistle at the same time. Sounds vaguely like a kazoo.

I can...um...sing most of the Monty Python songs, mostly on key.
I also officially play bass. Haven't picked the damn thing up in weeks and was never very good at it anyway.

Actually Indigo Violent, those are the only things that I know how to play on the piano - let's have a rousing rendition of Brave Sir Robin 'cos I'm a sucker for aeolian mode
Also, I can passably play guitar and much more passably play the clarinet, though not at the same time.
Now, let me share a secret - I used to be a member of The Wollongong (the nasty steel industry town where I spent alot of time growing up) Recorder Consort, when I was 10 'till 15 years of age... I played a recorder that was bigger than me, and which visually has more in common with a bassoon than it does those evil plastic pipes which are given to elementary school children.
Those cheap plastic recorders have done more to ruin the reputation of the recorder and music in general than Brittany Spears and Elevator Muzak combined.
I also used to really enjoy singing when I played guitar, but that was back when my voice was pure and virginal, now it's sultry and husky in that "I probably smoke to much" kind of way
Y'know Indigo Violent, if we find a few other willing forumites I think I can envisage a Science Ninja Big Ten Tribute Band. We could call ourselves something like, Intelligent Design Small Zero... or not... yup, definitely not.

I shall keep myself in oysters for the rest of the week, thank you very much.
...I want Beatmania. Though the few times I've gotten the chance to play it I sucked horribly.Spiral Zer0 wrote:game, Beatmania IIDX 10th style

Once I get my full size guitar hero controller built, I'll have to post a movie of me playing it.. or something.

I can play bass and trumpet, as well as my amazing home-made bagpipes. I'm not much good at any of them, but that's beside the point.

I currently have one clip uploaded, and that was to help the other musicians learn the version of the tune I'd worked out. It's a calypso version of the scottish reel the Fairys' Dance
Oh wait, I still have a recording of myself singing Gothlyn on the server. This was an April Fool's Day Challenge: I was challenged to re-write Tam Lin set in a goth night club.

I dabble.
I've dabbled in guitar, (6-string and bass), piano, and kit drums, and I guess skins too (given my past tendency to sit around drum circles at SCA campouts, too drunk to say no). But my only musical competency is singing. And I'm a bass. Mainly drunk karaoke.
My kids are both taking guitar lessons, and to help them learn, I demanded they teach me. So in recent months, I've re-learned a little guitar, but I can in no way sustain enough speed and accuracy to play anything recognizable as a song. Maybe about in a year.

I used to play trumpet and mellophone back in high school, could probably manage a few notes if I were to try these days.
The past few years I've been learning the viola, even got myself an electric viola which theoretically should make it easy for me to record something, should I ever feel competent enough that I have something worth recording. I really should start practicing again, haven't done so since before I moved this last time.

Life is what you make of it. You only get one shot, do with it what you can to make it the best.
