MS WORD HEEEEELP

Post by Goddessmisca »

So I"m stuck doign my final paper --not just any final but my senior project you must complete this to graduate paper-- in MS word because my prof wants an electronic submission.

Not a huge problem, I know it pretty well...But I don't know it inside out.

But i've bumped into a stumbling block. I need to include a map, and I need to CITE this map, but I cannot figure out how the frack I cite a graphic.

Any suggestions, hints or instructions?

To create a text citation, you'll need to collect four pieces of information from the web page. Here is how to find and write down each one:

Information Needed Explanation
1. Author
Usually at top or bottom of page. Use this format: Lastname, Firstname MI.
If no author name can be found, use the editor or the compiler of the information.

2. Title
Usually at the top of the web page or in the title bar of the browser window.

3. URL
The web address, starting with http://

4. Date
The date on the page or the date you are looking at the page. Use this format: January 1, 2000

To cite an image (graphic, picture, map, photo), you can use the following format from Classroom Connect:
Description or title of image. [Online image] Available http://address/filename, Date.

In black:
Two beluga whales. [Online image] Available http://www.seaworld.org/beluga_whales/beluga_col.gif, January 5, 2000.

I hope this helps...It´s from http://www.tekmom.com/cite/

I'm not worried about citing it, I can cite the map no problem....I just can't make the stupid footnote STICK to the graphic.

I would try dinking around with the font and maybe try super script instead of the foot note feature.

Worst case: Open it in a picture-editing program (paint works if you're using windows XP), type the citation on the bottom, and save.

I concur with Gengar.

One of my jobs last year was coding a VBA application for formatting and compiling official documents in MS Word. (pity me). (don't even get me started on section breaks and tables - VBA is BROKEN, and has been since about 1996). Often, your best bet is to override Word's crappy behavior, and "do it yourself" - (like inserting text into a graphic using a graphics editor, and pasting the image into the Word Doc as an object.)
