Sometimes I find myself wondering if this stuff is produced purely to keep westerners like ourselves out of the country, just a theory, its never actually shown in japan it just keeps the levels of immigrants down better than border patrol ever could.

...or perhaps its simply that my puny mind cannot comprehend such bizarre things in correct context.

No... I'm pretty much right with you in the "Why did I watch that? For that matter, why would anyone?" department.

I don't know, I can see it being enjoyable with a generous helping of angel dust-laced pot. Too bad I'm straightedge.

To compensate, here's a google video that is from overseas but makes more sense:

That gave me a seizure.
The American dream is to prosper by your chosen means, make your own decisions independent from some asshole in a fancy building. to live, love, and die by your own choices and passions.

and to tell the British royalty to eat a bag of dicks.

You might tell me about that sometime, if you're so inclined. So far, the -only- good thing I've heard about this movement is that they don't do drugs. And I've heard enough bad to sometimes think "Hey... Maybe these people could use some drugs."

which is particularly odd when you consider how completely anti-drug I am...

Well, that cleared up my misconception that Straight Edgers promoted abstinence to sex.

I don't know why, but Japanese guys in dresses don't shock me anymore. I guess its exposure to all the J-rock fumes, or maybe that I just assume any cute Japanese girl is actually a guy until proven otherwise.
Squidflakes, God-Emperor of the Tentacles.
He demands obeisance in the form of oral sex, or he'll put you at the mercy of his tentacles. Even after performing obeisance, you might be on the receiving ends of tentacles anyway. In this case, pray to Sodomiticus to intercede on your behalf.

There's a lot of back-and-forth yammering about what it means to be "really" straightedge, and I'm as sick of it as you are, trust me. In my case, it mostly just means that I try to avoid engaging in behaviors I view as either self-destructive or potentially dangerous to others, both out of a sense of self-preservation and moral responsibility. Smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, taking drugs, having sex with strangers, etc. If I contract lung cancer from smoking or an STD from being promiscuous, this places a burden on the society I live in, in addition to being harmful to myself.
Sometimes I feel like even assuming the label of straightedge is kind of silly because it doesn't completely encompass the scope of this moral responsibility, and excludes some behaviors I do engage in without feeling they're harmful (for example, I consume caffeine). Riding a bike or taking public transit aren't considered particularly straightedge, but it's part of my own philosophy of independence and social responsibility.
Mostly, I use straightedge as shorthand for "no thanks, I don't do that", and not have to explain at length why I've made the choices I have, in situations where I don't feel I owe an explanation to the person asking. And distressingly often, people seem to feel I need more of a reason than "I don't want to" to turn down a drink or a toke or a fuck.

Interesting... When I was halfway through your paragraph, I'd already started writing in my head, prefeced with a "if you don't mind some gentle t?te-?-t?te on the subject..." and followed quickly with "So I assume you stay out of automobiles, would never consider bungess jumping, riding a rollar-coaster or flying in an airplane, and of course you never eat sugary or fatty foods, right?"

But then I saw the bicycle part... So... Hmm. Interesting. Do you ride a bicycle primarily for the fossile fuels and pollution reasons, or also because riding in a car is statistically more dangerous than smoking? Or both?

Again, quite interesting... Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me. :-)
