Dude... What. The. (Worksafe)?!?!?

I mean... Lara Croft. I can almost see that. They made fanfic movies of Lara Croft. There's a character there. Potential for stories.

But Mario? Sonic the motherfucking goatshit Hedgefuckinghog?? Fanfiction!?!?!

Mario fanfiction is understandable, but self-defeating. In the games, the characters are basically blank slates. They have some roughly defining characteristics, but there's no real development or nuance. Hell, there's barely even any dialogue. So fans like to fill in the blanks with their own imaginings. The thing is, though, that this added development is actually out of character, since the originals are actually defined by their lack of specificity and depth. So reading it produces this effect of cognitive dissonance - not only between the established material and its derivatives, but also between one's actions and one's sense of good taste.

Sonic fanwriters, though... A lot of their material is based on either the games that have come out in the last decade, which are overwrought creative wastelands, or on the thoroughly mediocre Archie comics (or, if they're really feeling adventurous, both). They're basically duped into thinking the characters are interesting or well-developed, probably because the official material is in line with their own artistic development. Either that, or they're completely fucking nuts.

honor you fail to realize that sonic was made into several comic series and spawned several spin offs from its other hot topic characters

knuckles has his own
sonic and knuckles have their own
the chaotics from knuckles got their own
theres a kiddie version of sonic
theres a teen+ version of sonic
there were two different tv shows that I can think of

the games were just gravy for sega

I've got a bunch of sonic, sonic and knuckles, and a couple chaotics comics hidden away on a bookshelf somewhere

so the fanfiction doesn't surprise me, there actually is a lot more character and story in sonic than there is in mario

Besides, Mario and Lara don't have genes named after them, do they?

I've also read that many furries realised their perversion through some element of the sonic Expanded Universe.

Hmm. The concepts aren't entirely incompatible, I guess ... I mean, I haven't actually watched any Buffy, and I've read all of the HP books, but ...
A catboy is fine too. And I dancedancedance and I dancedancedance!

Hell, I had an idea for a Harry/Buffy crossover story a long time ago; just never got around to writing it. But I was more referring to the fanfic (both erotic and non) that exists for those two subjects. I have quite a few bookmarks devoted to those two.

The main reason I never wrote the story is that I never finished writing the solely Harry fanfic that I would've had to write in order to explain the vast majority of the ideas I intended to use; it's difficult to write a story when you'd have to explain a shitload of it in author's notes as to why one person had this power or ability and others didn't.

That reminds me... I haven't written anything in a while. I wonder if I have the time to start up again.

Sorry for calling you out, but I feel I have to say, this post reminds me of why I like this particular board so much. Not only does it acknowledge that people are entitled to their opinions, as well as kinks, but it also allows them to hit not only Geek Mode, but ascend to the status of UberGeek on a regular basis without fear of repercussion. Ghastly's Ghastly Forum once again proves that geeks are the most interesting people around!
