Got my ticket for the 10 pm show tomorrow...

Would have gone earlier, but that whole, gotta-be-at-work well rested to deliver pizza all day thing.

Take my love, take my land,
take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free;
You can't take the sky from me...

Take me out, to the black
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me...

::insert teriffic instrumental portion::

I'm not entirely certain
what the rest of the words are
but at some point they say
"Serenity"
You can't take the sky from me...

Well, I'm not entirely up-to-date on this movie, it seems, but I hope you have a lot of fun. Is the squirt gun loaded with anything I don't want to know about? ^^;

Once again, I'm not excited about a sci-fi movie.

1.) I can't stand Joss Wheadon. Buffy not only didn't do it for me, but it activly makes me retch. The ONLY episode that I EVER enjoyed of that series is the one where the guys who steal voices came to town. The creepy smiles, the floating, and NO ONE FUCKING TALKING.
To me, the dialog in that show is just embarrising.

2.) I'm so damn picky about my sci-fi. I really do love space opera.. I swear to you I LOVE space opera. I love the idea of a space frontier, freebooting ship captians swapping deltaV for cash, and ect, but something about Firefly just rubs me the wrong way. I seriously can't put my finger on it.. but I can't watch without getting irritated.

3.) The ships fly too much like aircraft. Really people, c'mon.. BSG does this too.. in face, EVERY DAMN SPACE SHOW EVER.. except B5 does this. AIRFOILS DO NOT WORK IN SPACE! Doing a banking turn, loops, yo-yos, dips, ect.. none of this shit is valid space combat tactic. There is a little thing called inertia, and if you've been thrusting in direction A for time x its going to take a HELL of a lot of thrust to alter that. Yaw and roll are no problem, and pitch is easy too, but you've STILL got motion in direction A. Bleh.

But.. Misca.. ENJOY! If you're excited enough about a movie to dress in character...

You forgot about the other exception -- that masterpiece of science fiction -- Space: 1999. (Still, I prefer Face: 1999. ;) )

You're also forgetting Space Above And Beyond.

Also, Joss Whedon is well aware of inertia and when in space inertia is in full effect in Firefly.

Negative sir. Space: Above and Beyond was one of the worst transgressors. One scene in particular shows a transport ship doing a banked turn when its approaching a space platform.

And i've watched some Firefly episodes.. they still fly like aircraft.

Cool, hope it's good for you.

I myself didn't really care for Buffy. Most of the time it was teenage angst and they seemed like they were going for more Dawson's Creek than anything. I despise Dawson's Creek e_e. Angel was okay, it didn't really tickle my fancy though. Smallville I used to love until they started getting into more angst and Sex and junk. It's like 'This week on Smallville! Clark and Lana have more problems meanwhile while Lex switches back from being good and evil every five minutes! And while this is going on strange Kryptonite Particles are making the Teenagers Horny!'

I mean sure it sounds good but after a while it gets old

There is my costume!

Only one other person descided to dress up, ont of the 14 of us, everyone else suuucks!

I was honestly surprised how much I liked the series, not really my thing. Wheden does some cool things, and some things that are very risky--the episode objects in space, had the show not already been marked for cancelation oh that would have done it, it was so pure JOSS.

And squiddy, in responce to your airplane comment *rasberry of doom* It's Tv/movie, in that world physics is differnt silly goose!

Okay...so, uh, of all the completely off the wall ideas presented, it's the space combat physics that seems most implausable?

well I gotta say, I got dragged to Serenity, and I loved it.
Yea, there were some technical mistakes, but the character development was very nice, the dialog wasn't embarrising, the quips were kept to a happy medium, and the fight scenes were top notch.

So, I stand corrected.

Buffy and Angel still suck of course.. but I'm wanting to watch some Firefly now.

My friend who lent me his Firefly DVDs had asked me if I'd ever seen Firefly on TV and when I told him I hadn't he said he envied me because I was going to get to experience it for the first time the way it was intended to be experienced and not the way Fox butchered the series as it was shown on TV.

If you saw Firefly on TV and were turned off the series I'd recommend getting ahold of the DVDs and watching it the way it was supposed to be seen. You'll love it I'm sure.

I couldn't stand Buffy... Angel was okay but nothing special... but Firefly is something else entirely. I watched the series a few times through, and every episode has 4 or 5 wonderfully quotable lines. I consider it the best written Sci Fi show to date.

The movie was good... not quite as good as I had hoped, but it was classic Wheedon.
