OK, I'm not a fanfic n00b (have been reading/writing my own for ages) - but for some reason, I've never been able to figure this out - - what exactly IS the definition of a lemon??

A Lemon is an Anime Fanfiction that contains explict sexual content, also refered to in general fanfiction parlance as a Smutfic. (though that's usually used in a deragatory fashion)

A similar term is 'Lime', which referest to an anime fanfiction that contains sexual content that happens 'offcamera', but is explicitly implied by the action in the story. IE: "Wow, what a nice gangbang. Time for school."


I heard the origin of the reference Lemon had something to do with the Cream Lemon Hentai series, but I have no firm proof of this.

Ive also heard it also originated with a manga publication called Lemon People. As you can imagine it was almost all hentai in nature

Ah. Thanks for the explanations I generally read X-men fics (slash or otherwise) and the occasional Star Trek and Buffy the Vampire Slayer ones. So I wouldn't probably have run across those terms.

Let me run a thought by you guys - you know the novels you can purchase, based on the various TV series? Aren't those essentially LOOOONG fanfics (though they're lucky enough to get contracts)?

like every other term, Lemon and Lime has changed over time. Lemon used to refer to what would be Yuri these days, i.e. girls on girls, which is what the Creme Lemon hentai series was ALLLL about. Sometimes it wasn't just girl on girl, but there were always two girls in the scene making out. Black Cat Mansion was the only partial exception because there was a mother character who seducted a boarder, and her daughter would watch the seductions and masturbate. The mother caught the daughter and made her be present in the room while a seduction was taking place, and you can pretty much guess it from there.

Lime used to refer to what is called Yaoi these days. So guys on guys.
