I do legitimately want to know why women like chocolate, though.

Is it the taste, or the psychoactive effects?

(The reason why chocolate is toxic to dogs is because it contains theobromine, a caffeine-like chemical which acts as an upper. It also stimulates the same receptors as cannabis, apparently. Animals cannot process the theobromine and overdose on it really really easily.

Also, humans are the only animals that can eat avocadoes without dying.)

I have to challenge that statement; I've known many dogs and other animals to eat avocadoes without any observable ill effects. The local (southern California) groves are full of rats and opossums who help keep the ground under the trees clear of drops.

As I understand it, the toxicity is mainly in the leaves and bark of the tree, and in the skin and pits of the fruit to a lesser degree. The scavengers are apparently smart enough to leave the nasty bits alone and just eat the flesh.

In years of keen observation, I have not found the converse to be true.

That said, Chocolate is the food of the Gods. Best consumed in pure form, without being adulterated with sweeteners, (or wax, I'm looking at YOU Hershey. . . )
