On the bright side....

Post by Katjapurrs »

I realized today, as i peeked through the blinds watching my normally peaceful patio erupt into a fist-throwing, inter-gender 2 on 2 brawl that none of my neighbors like me.. but on the bright side i won't have to pick a side in this fight! :D

how do you look on the bright side of life?

I wake in the morning, put the coffee on, and while I'm waiting for that, step out on my back porch in my pj's take a deep breath, and say to myself; "another beautiful day in paradise!"

For me, anyway, being naturally kind of a negative person - I find it's crucial to psych myself out on positive vibes on a daily basis. Necessary therapy.

One can always imagine the "it could be worse" scenario. That doesn't tend to work as well for me as does simply accepting that the current scenario is good.

I tend to look on the bright side in hindsight. I tend to have a fairly mixed view of the future, with plenty of room for good and bad, so whatever happens doesn't tend to shock me either way. But, in total, looking back on what's happened recently is usually better than I would have expected looking forward to the same moment in time a week before.

Aw man! I thought that said fist throwing trans-gender 2 on 2 brawl.

2 on 2 tranny catfight would be kind of hot.

if you could arrange for some original ghastly artwork to be sent to me, i could arrange to tape just such a match for you ;)

EDIT: zOMG! Ghastly responded to one of my posts!!! *courtesies before his greatness*

ReEDIT: i wasn't posting this to feel sorry for myself, or to actually seek advise for how to feel happy (i figured that out in 7th grade  ) more highlighting the irony in that my social rejection locally at my apartment building (mostly due to the fact that we have a lot of company many would consider "Strange" who i consider "Interesting") insulates me from awkward social situations, and perhaps soliciting other ironic situations in daily life. </clarification>

I'd also like to say something about negative thinking. Since I'm a pro at it.

My wife (bless her) wanting me to get out of a years long funk I'd been in, posted a saying she took from a book on Positive Thinking, (a book I refused to read) - "It's easier to be unhappy and negative then Positively Happy! Take the challenge!" - Every time I look at that sign, I crack up. Yeah, she has an excuse, in that she's dyslexic, and always had a terrible time with English. But every time I read that sign, posted above her desk, I look at the grammatical error, and chuckle.

You see, if I had a "Positive Attitude" about things, I would just read the sign, take the challenge, and be happy. If I take the "Negative Attitude" track - then I nit-pick it for the grammatical errors.

An optimist says the glass is half full.
The pessimist says it's half empty.
The engineer says; why is the glass 2x larger than what's needed?

The whole positive/negative thing is a false dichotomy. One must be free to criticize when one sees something wrong. If we didn't do that, nothing would ever get fixed, and we'd all be in caves roasting mammoth over a campfire. On the other hand; there's no sense in always being a grump about everything either.

Basically - what DID work for getting me out of my funk, was, well, I realized that if I was always negative, people around me would be negative too. And it started to rub off in some very unpleasant ways. So I decided to try to change, and there's all kinds of little tricks and tools that cognitive therapists will tell you about. Some of them are just plain cheesy, like telling yourself that everything is just peachy every day. Or, forcing yourself to just smile. I know it's not true. But it works anyway.

I know that repressing feelings isn't good either. So there's got to be some outlet for the negative feelings. I'm thinking; insulting people on the internet might work. . .

.....actually, after reading Uncle G's response, and then re-reading the original post, I confess that I made the same mistake. I'd envisioned immaculately coiffed transvestites going at it tag-team style a la luchadore-type wrestling...

Now that I see you mean mixed gender nasty knock outs. Agh. Not fun.

I suggest laying mines on your verandah.

Interesting... I read lulu's suggestion as:
I suggest laying mimes on your verandah.
Which, I'm sure, would also keep people off your porch. Well... most people.
