I'm thankful for the fact that, in spite of being completely alone on thanksgiving, without even speaking to another human being, and only seeing a couple in passing, I had fun. I made an entire 18 pound turkey, for myself [and am currently enjoying some left-overs]. I'm thankful for the fact that, even though I enjoy having other people around, I can keep my posture and stand up straight even when there isn't somebody next to me to make me.

I'm thankful I can keep a sense of humor through even the thickest and worst of times.

And damnit, that turkey was yummy.

...oy...
Well actually that's pretty much true for my family and every other family I know. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving even close to how the Americans do. I don't even consider Thanksgiving a real holiday... Also I don't eat poultry so there's no real exciting special dinner. Just some cranberry sauce on top of a regular dinner.

Edit: And yes I know that it was meant as a "we have our thanksgiving on a different day so we do think of the American one as just a regular day" thing. I just wanted to add my opinion on Thanksgiving.

We have a big dinner every sunday at my house, so it's really no big deal to cook a turkey instead of a chicken. It's more the fact that we get a day off then anything else. (except me, I'm a bartender who works a giant thanksgiving buffet every thanksgiving and has my thanksgiving dinner lukewarm at like 9pm with my co-workers while wearing a tuxedo)

*laughs* in a way kittyboy... the process of making my new naughty bits involves reconfiguring my current naughty bits.... while i guess it would theoretically be possible to create a real-life futa via certain methods no reputable surgeon would do that, nor is it what i want for my life ;)

it would be kinda hawt though

I'd say "What about disreputable surgeons?" but my next thought was, well, really freaking obvious regarding to the likelihood that you want a disreputable surgeon anywhere near you and an operating room.

(Oh, and the one I had after that was:)

So katja, you're becoming a full fledged gal then? Linda, on this forum, went through such an operation recently too.

I also have a significant other who was considering MtF surgery at one time, but she's still very insecure about her identity and doesn't think she'll go through with it. She'll probably just settle for being a venus with a penis. ;)

I do hope she one day becomes more comfortable being a girl more publicly though, she's growing her hair out at least. ^__^ Too bad she has such homophobic parents. :( But at least she's been living on her own for a while...

well...as "full fledged" as you can be without the ability to reproduce or create life. :( i still hold out some hope that science may someday cure even that defect, but my better judgment tells me that my hopes will probably best be realized by adoption. As simple as it sounds i see the root of the psychological differences and roles between men and women in that women can create life and men can not (don't give me the birds and the bees, yes men participate in conception but that's hardly a monumental achievement). This one simple fact is what has propagated through millions of years of evolution and created the true difference between men and women. But as important as creating life, is nurturing life; and as we all know there's already a lot more people in this world than we have space for. So by adopting and raising a child i can fill the void in my life which to me is the true difference, much more so than anything any surgery we have now can correct. To me the final stage of transition is to raise a child. This is a stepping stone.

What works for some doesn't work for others.. it's a difficult choice to make and for some the discomfort of living as someone else is less painful than the sacrifices made to transition. for others surgery could create more pain than whatever their true issue was. The process of transition is really more one of introspection than physical alteration, and many people find that they are most comfortable somewhere between their birth "gender norm" and the "gender norm" one would seek after surgery. So, perhaps your friend is where she will find the most comfort already, or perhaps as she follows further down the path of introspection she will find her gender identity to be a bit more firm than she originally realized. XD (sorry for being long-winded)

Very interesting insight, Katja, thanks. :) Perhaps when my gal gets closer to her ideal image she'll take minor treatments to have breasts, perhaps, but I'm perfectly content no matter what she find herself most comfortable as. :) As long as she finds her happy medium.

Ah, I've wondered about that. They don't exactly tell you these things at standard school sex ed, not even here in Europe.

I've, a few times, pondered wherther it were possible to transplant certain organs to transsexuals from their desired gender.
The gospel preacher, the hostile teacher/The face of God with an impostor's features
This is the prophecy - the cult leader/The people's temple, the holy ground, the war compound
Four-pound to rifles, disciples, the holy idles/Supreme truth, the cult leader with the green tooth
The multi-millionaire with a stare that can freeze troops/I program people to kill
The motiviational speaker, my words cause people to feel/It's mind control, let the cult leader guide your soul
Open up your eyes to the lies he told/The general, the chief, I be the political pioneer
The cult leader, you can believe in me, I am here/Bless the children, take you under my wing, shelter
Helter Skelter, this is it, you can't kill me I'll exist forever. Cult Leader!

Probably in theory, but I think that also falls under the "no reputable surgeon" catagory. Organ transplants are seriously risky and normally mean taking anti-rejection (immunosuppressive) drugs for the rest of your life. That's the current situation anyway.
