I notice a lot of people put x in their names these days, probably because other names have been taken. But I was wondering, when someone has an x between two words, how do you read it? For example

Ravenxdrake > I read this name as "Raven by Drake"
xnapalmxmorningx > I read this name as "Napalm by Morning"

Maybe it comes from all the math problems I do?

If I say anything, I say "ecks" because the math problems I do I use a dot for multiplication to not confuse the times sign with the variable x. And if it's a pairing for some fandom, i usually omit saying the X. RoyxEd becomes RoyEd when I say it. Same goes with the slash. I don't say Roy slash Ed for Roy/Ed, i say RoyEd. (who gets what series i'm talking about? eh?). I always called RavenxDrake RavenDrake in my head.

When I see user IDs with an 'x' in them, I normally read them as 'wanker'.

I was using "x" as a space.
Then the O.C.D kicked in and I stuck one on each end.

Also it's taken from the ever popular Apocalypse Now quote said by Kilgore "I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory."

I say "ecks".

Example: Raven-ecks-Drake, if we're gonna use that particular SN for these examples.

I see it alot in MMO's after server transfers/Mergers. As we merge server A adn Server B due to shrinking playerbase, server b will vanish and server a will remain. Any player from server B that has the same name as someone from server A, will have an x placed at the beginning and end of the name.

hehe... Well, in my case, I've used RavenDrake as my official online nickname/handle for nearing a decade, it's based on (I'm almost ashamed to admit) some self-insertion fanfiction that I never actually got around to writing in the Michael Moorecock Eternal Champion universe (specifically Elric's Universe).

It USED to be my handle on the forums here, however after an early computer disaster it took me almost a year to get back online. By that time the Email address I used to register the nick had expired(hell, I didn't even remember which one it was) and I'd forgotten the password I used so I couldn't get back into the RavenDrake account, so I created RavenxDrake(the X just being a filler, but different than a _).

RavenDrake is still my main nick i use everywhere I can: IRC [Dalnet usually], Most forums, My MMO's (Except for Everquest. In that same downtime I closed my old account, and didn't have the same Credit Card anymore, so I couldn't reopen it. It's under RavenxDrake as well).

I suppose I could have put something less obtrusive, but I'm picky. Raven_Drake is ugly and hard to type, and I don't like _RavenDrake or RavenDrake_. I don't like extranious bits at the for or aft of my name, and I wanted something easy to type, so RavenxDrake stuck.

As for pronounciation, I don't see why people insist on prounoucning the x.... for example I don't put them in xnapalmxmorningx's name when I think it(I don't actually say it out loud, but If I did it would be Napalm Morning). It's just RavenDrake (ps that's Raven as in the Colour[iradescent purple/black] and Drake as in Winged Dragon). No real seperation of the words... The character's name was Ædrian the Raven Drake thought, two seperate words, but when I use it as my nick it's just Ravendrake. Though it's strange.... I capitolize the second word just because I always have... I suppose from the pronounciation I shouldn't, but especially since I added the x, Ravenxdrake looks silly, so it's RavenxDrake.

And that was entirely too much to type about a name.... XD

I read it as "sexes up".

I say "ecks," because my life is now thankfully devoid of algebra.

Although, when I first say this poll, I thought, "where is the option for 'excess?'" - but that's because I'm a little daft at times :)
I shall keep myself in oysters for the rest of the week, thank you very much.

The small x is automatically skipped in my head so Ravenxdrake gets read as Ravendrake.

You know, So many people use X in their name I just tuned the letter out completely.

X is dead to me.

Q isn't too far behind. He knows what he did.

No, it's a phonetic "y" - nothing at all like those other x-es.

also just ignore the odd space-filler bits in names [like x in many cases], but since there isn't an option for that, i'll just not vote :D

Eh, tis filler, Always read it as that always will

Personally I thought there were no spaces allowed so I put an 'x' instead. You know, because it's tiring to see an underscore on everything.

I'm so used to _b_l_o_o_d_y_k_i_s_s_e_s_ or some other sort of shit that underscores are just WAY too overused

So I used x's because I didn't think that would be so common and sure enough I see instead xbxlxoxoxdxyxkxixsxsxexsx

Would've used a K but I worry about people using Ks

You'd really hate the names I've seen then

I've seen something like 'DaRkAnGeL' or 'gOtHgIrL^6^' because the girl's holding the shift key down and up when she's typing forgetting to stop at the 666 part.

Those drive me crazy

nothing is worse than people on MSN messenger that change their nicks to some long drawn out phrase, and change it daily so you're never really quite sure who you're talking to...

lucky for me my IM client doesn't do the yahooxmsn chimera crossover crap builtin so i never have to deal with that :)
