then no i do not think that the cops had any reason to stand there and tase him like that. they should have gotten him out of there quickly and let him cool off in a holding cell for a few hours and let him go (assuming he wasn't wanted for anything)

as it was it seemed like they were making a game out of it and they let the situation get worse with all those people watching.

some cops are alright people, i have know quite a few.

the rest are ass holes who are about 80% bully 20% coward.

those people had every right to ask those cops questions and try to find out why they were being such asses.

i think the reason cops like that have such a problem with college kids is that they just don't feel comfortable around people who are smarter then them.

I never said all, did I? If I meant all professors I'd have just said Professors, and not have bothered with distinctions. but I know that not all members of any one group are the same. some are radical left, others are radical right, the rest are just teachers who do their job and don't give a shit about politics, or at least not to the point of pushing it on their students.

Though Major, I gotta say... there are very few college professors who follow that Right wing fabricated stereo-type of the Communist Manifesto thumping Marxist, Maoist, Lenninist, hippie, drug-addict, freakazoids.

I find that particular propaganda to be of the most insidious sort, painting the whole higher education system as some sort of Leftist mind control factory, and instilling fear of intelligence and learning in the general populace. I fact, I can't think of a more idiotic thing to tell people. They tried that in Europe in the Middle Ages, and look what happened.

In my experience, alot are radical leftist, and often use their position as teachers to recruit students to their cause. Others are radical conservative and do the same. "get 'em whole they're young and impressionable," as they say. It's despicable, they give all teachers and professors a bad name and they shouldn't be allowed to do it. And lets face it; far too many colleges have become a breeding ground for the most retarded of leftist ideas.

i have met alot of cops that i don't think could have even gotten into a college .

no i don't think that every kid that takes a few classes is going to someday have a PHD, in fact most of them never will, and more then a few are just drunk asssed loud mouths that think they are important.

but on the average i'd say that about 1 in 10 (and i am making this number up) college kids has a working brian up in his or her skull.

I don't see the point in arguing over matters that we are never truly going to know what happened to incite the reaction of the officers, that is the job of a jury.

I work with folks, some with no degrees, who are so smart it's scary, all the way up through people with bachelors, masters, and PhDs. While I have to say that neither of the PhDs I work with are dumb (or leftist, - ) I have to say that there seems to be a disproportionate representation among masters holders that are terminally stupid. I don't know what it is; wait - I *do* know what it is. People who got a soft bachelors, found that it wasn't enough to get them where they wanted in the business world, (as if it was the degree, as opposed to lack of smarts or work-ethic) so they went for an MBA. That's most (but not all) of the masters holders I know, and they're all fucking stupid - and unfortunately, those are the ones that get into management, whether they have even the remotest ability to grasp basic leadership concepts or not. It seems like the ones that went on to get a masters were usually trying to compensate for lack of smarts.

Anyway - long story short; a degree is a terrible measure of whether someone's got it going on upstairs. It is also not a measure at all, of whether that person has a good work-ethic (as is commonly misconceived).

But when it comes to cops, they often fall prey to what's probably the most universal truth; Power Corrupts.

This universal truth is exactly WHY America's founding fathers built our government's system of checks and balances, and adopted the British Common Law concepts of Habeus Corpus, and all that good Magna Carta stuff. Forget this lesson at your, (and everyone else's) peril.

Right now, we're too busy, in America, cowering in terror, to worry about outdated pre-9/11 things like Rights and Liberty. I think it would probably would be very amusing for the rest of the world to watch, if we weren't lobbing bombs at them.

(honestly.. If someone dies an hour after you shock them, how can you say they had a pre-existing condition and would have died anyways? There was also an article in my local paper today about a police officer who was trying to taser a suspect. She hit two innocent bystanders, then switched to pepperspray and accidentally pepper sprayed the suspect's 16 yr old daughter before he gave up (possibly because the officer was injuring his entire family)?

And as far as i know, none of these articles include the incident where the officer went to grab his/her taser and accidentally grabbed his/her gun and shot the suspect to death at close range.

The worst offenders for snotty are the children of the wealthy, powered and priveledged, all of whom are politicly conservitive. I'm a student informaiton officer, I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. If someone is threatinging my job to get their fail grade amended to a pass, it's not becasue they are gonna get the comunist club to have a peacefull sit in in my office, it is becasue they are threating that their high powered laywer father will sue, in the following order, me personaly, their academic, and the university.

In this country, this is a clear violation of several differnt kinds o rights. No arguement. Someone is trespassing and hte cops are called, they are entitled to use physical force up to and including pressure point holds and judo techniques, all of which they are trained in to remove him. If a perp goes limp they drag em off. Thats all. They aint allowed to bust out hte capsicum spray or tasers (which are in trial use only) unless the person is beligerant, violent or intox.
Of course here Police person is a respected, state wide profesison. They screen potential cops carefully for inteligence, personality and to eliminate bullies. Thye dont deliberatly hire uninteligant thugs and give them authority the way some places withen the us do. and yeah, i know what im talking bout htere too, a friend of mine, she jsut got elected mayor of her town on a platform of firing the bully boy cops her predecessior had hired.
