I don't understand though. I've tried working out recently, and all that happened was my arms now have a tiny bit of muscle and now my stomach is thinner.

Heh, I like it when other people are squishy, I'm in the process of attempting to lose some weight... Though I'm really lazy so I dunno how well this attempt will go. :P

DDR is an exercise program i've heard mostly good things about, some of the PC pads for Stepmania are actually sturdy enough to last. admittedly, no personal experience here since there's too much jumping for my knees/ankles to take more than one or two songs before i'm limping the rest of the day.

but most anything where you can trick your brain with the 'oh no, i'm having fun, see? not exercise at all!' is most likely to be better than one where you aren't, even if you theoretically do less exercising the 'fun' way.

Heh, I've got DDR, I used to play a lot, but I'm the kind of lazy person who loses interest if it takes longer than a second to set up. (My mom kept packing the pad away, so I lost interest) I'm gonna start playing again though, sometime soon I'm sure.

Or there's my method,
  • 1 have car break down
    2 drop $1k+ in parts trying to fix it.
    3. still have problem (was losing not burning 4-6 quarts of oil daily) but start setting a bit aside to replace
    4. have new breakdown possibly unrelated to original
    5. be broke from spending 1k+
    6. live 4 miles from nearest bus stop.
When forced to walk 8 miles a day, weight seems to come off pretty quickly. Between 1800 calorie diet my doctor put me on due to enlarged heart and 8 miles a day, i have dropped 56 pounds since July 1st. As of about 3 weeks ago. Have probably lost a bit more since was at dr's office last, I don't own a scale myself, but the size 40 pants I just bought as I couldn't keep the 44's on even with a belt anymore are getting lose and bought the pants about 1.5 weeks ago.

Well after a bad asthma attack where I went to dr's office cause still had trouble breathing after using inhaler multiple times, I got diagnosed with an enlarged heart. Basically the part of my heart that brings oxygen from the lungs was enlarged because it was working extra hard. PCP sent me to an internist who sent me for sleep study, echocardiogram, and bloodwork. I was having trouble with sleep apnea. He said you need to lose weight, at least 50 pounds. I am hoping to get down around 200 lbs. Pre-college weight. I definitely feel better for having lost the weight. I used to get winded just walking the flight of stairs to my apartment.

I'm also half-heartedly trying to lose weight...

walking is good, and DDR is fun.

hugging squishy people is fun, but there is a such thing as too squishy.

Lowky, sorry to hear about your enlarged heart... though it sounds poetic, i'm sure it's not fun. *hugs*

thanks for the well wishes. It's supposed to be something if caught early and corrective actions taken that can repair/recover. That's part of why the doctor has wanted me to lose so much weight so fast. What happens when it becomes enlarged is basically the same as any muscle, you work it harder it becomes bigger. With the heart however, this means that it doesn't work as efficiently. Hopefully it was caught in time and the condition is reversering itself. When first diagnosed they put me on medication for high blood pressure. I have been off that since about the second month, so...
