Squidly Abuse

Post by Lulujayne »

How many poor celaphapods had to die during the making of this little opus?

Although I did giggle during the brief moment when her head goes all octopus :)

and the song's not too bad either, in so far as how angry angsty brit pop-rock goes...
I shall keep myself in oysters for the rest of the week, thank you very much.

I think she used to be a scientist too... Isn't that her in the green and blue?

Shexy.

Reminds me of that one episode of Drawn Together where the princess has an octo-pussy.

Oh noes it's a octopus bursting out of that woman's stomach! The octopus must have laid eggs in her while on her face.

.....Actually, I got really bored at work today so I watched it frame by frame in quicktime (Oh yes, I was that bored) and discovered that it's utterly disturbing - in that good kind of way :) - when you watch it slowly you can see the poor girl get smacked full-on in the face by the poorer squid again and again... It's still making me giggle when I think about it now

o.o

Sorry. Have to be the voice of dissent. While I found the video merely annoying, the song itself was one of the most nasty... Well, certainly nasty enough that I'd be comfortable with a law that required any similar public performance* to be punishable by death or at least serious and reparative mutilation.

*"public performance" in this case being playing or causing to be played such drek in such a place as a typical person can be reasonably expected to be subjected to it in the course of normal activities. Wanna wallow in pig shit in your own home where nobody else has to smell it, or get any on 'em... be my guest.

I would never expect less of you

Anyways, I never would have realized that you had such a soft spot for "angry angsty brit pop-rock," to denigrate such poor examples. Although maybe I should have added the word "whiny" into the original post to impart more of my general opinion of the genre.

Nonetheless, the thing just made me giggle, and goddamit if one law-abiding consensual human being cannot enjoy watching another law-abiding consensual human being get whacked across the puss by a large soggy law-abiding consensual squid, then just how far have we fallen?!?!!

......Far, far indeed.

And how did you come by the supposition that the cephlopod in question was indeed "law-abiding"? I would put it to you that in order for an octopus or squid to make it in the music business, they have to engage in certian nefarious and under-tentacled acts that would definately be outside the scope of "the law"

No... I said, in so many words, "Silence it. No matter the cost. It's an abomination. There is no acceptable volume level for anything this hopelessly bad and without redeeming feature."
Lulujayne wrote:Anyways, I never would have realized that you had such a soft spot for "angry angsty brit pop-rock," to denigrate such poor examples. Although maybe I should have added the word "whiny" into the original post to impart more of my general opinion of the genre.
I don't know what this means, exactly... But to answer at my best guess, it's nothing to do with the 'genre' specifically. I care nothing about a music's 'genre' unless it's racist, homophobic (or homosexualisodyssomic if we want to be a little more accurate... Although I'm almost sure I didn't form that word properly...) or otherwise openly violent and hateful.

Mostly, music that is like this example, i.e: utterly without melodic content, sign of creativity or skill in creation, or any other redeeming feature, I just toss into the giant super-category of 'meaningless, worthless shit' and be done with it.

Music is math. I should be able to hear every note, every chord, every nuance. It should be clear and harmonic and lyrical. Anything less is no more "music" than - were I to take a nice dump on the coffee table and declare it art - that proclaimation be accurate. Simply calling it something doesn't make it so.

It's not 'music' it's atonal, mindless, anamalistic screaming... And while it may be 'politically correct' and 'sensitive' and 'sophisticated' to pretend right along with the 'musician' that his 'creation' is anything more than semi-firm chunks in an overfull diaper, it just isn't so. It's just society deciding that there's one more thing it's impolite to be honest about.

Wow. Honor and I are in complete agreement on something :o
"It is the difference between the unknown and the unknowable, between science and fantasy - it is a matter of essence. The four points of the compass be logic, knowledge, wisdom and the unknown. Some do bow in that final direction. Others advance upon it. To bow before the one is to lose sight of the three. I may submit to the unknown, but never to the unknowable. The man who bows in that final direction is either a saint or a fool. I have no use for either."

It's no Rubber Johnny. By the same director. And by a much better band (although I disagree pretty strongly with Honor's definition of music). That said, I can't argue with her assessment of this three-note symphony. The vocals are somehow simultaneously overwhelming and underwhelming, and they drain all the fun out of it. If the singer could find a melody or even the beat I could imagine myself enjoying this song.

the bits that didn't involve squid-smackage looked like she was having a fairly hideous siezure... so i stopped about 20 seconds in.

"Would that be the half-hour or the full hour argument?"

None for me thanks, I'm trying to give up.

So you don't like the song, that's now abundantly apparent and all well and good.
But I would have thought that some one of your argumentative skills would have picked something much more worthwhile to squirt vitriol all over :shucks:

Anyways, just like you, Mistress Honor, I too know what I do like and don't like seeping down into my auditory canals....

*wanders off to bang some pots and pans together*

*briefly scurries back to say...*

Rubber Johnny! Oh Frombork, I'm quite the jealous one now! The short is banned in my neck of the woods, so I've not been able to see it. But I'm definitely a fan of C. Cunningham's visual style, and more than anything else his exploration of anatomy, entropy and decay.

How is Rubber Johnny banned? o_O The website it is on or the video in general?

Surely it's found in many places...

It was released at various film festivals around the world, and this was a place that wouldn't have it (baring in mind that the BKK film festival is a pretty milky-weak outing in general anyways.)
I'd just have liked to have the full 6 minute cinematic glory as opposed to being hunched over quicktime/you-tube etc.
