Stress Purge

Post by Sweet or Sour »

When stakes get high and things look like they are all going to break down at any moment, what do you do to keep level headed? How do you reduce stress when the levels get just that high? Do you handle high pressure well, and if so, how do you react when it gets to be too much? What effects does high stress have on you?

I have a bit of stress trouble, and I always know how to cure it!!

1. Step one: play video games

2. Step two: masturbate to shit on 4chan

Repeat until stress is gone.

Coming from a guy, this will sound weird. Hot baths with scented salts work well for me.

Other than that, a good workout, or a good screw will usually do the trick, and a "suprise" blowjob will almost always pull me out of any grunmpiness I'm suffering from stress.

For most of my career, my job has been stress driven, i.e. people only call me when they are stressed, or there are always deadlines to meet, so I've learned to handle stress pretty well.

The few times I've been OVERstressed I tend to enjoy a little meditation and some furious masturbation.

Hot bath and some light reading. Sarah Caudwell mysteries work very well.

Awkward sent me something the other night that helps cure stress. This isn't exactly the verison she sent, but it has the same effect.

Martial arts, especially the heavy bag. Prayer. Meditation. Sex. Walk the dogs.

I relieve stress, in general, by one of two ways: hanging out with my girlfriend is always nice, but if I'm not with her, then I'll go for some music (MC Frontalot, MC Chris, Beefy, Jesse Dangerously, SNB10, and Rage Against the Machine, generally) blasting out of my stereo.
You know what I love? Free music.

freaking awesome.

I tend to pace furiously, so a long walk (or any other extensive exersize) helps me to stop from exploding, or watching a particularly funny movie (or particularly funny podcast) or sex (but if I'm stressed, I'm too much of a jerk to acquire sex, so it kinda doesnt count) or some furious wanking.

I usually have a hot bubble bath, or if I'm in an angry kind of stressed mood I'll either scream into a pillow and cry or rip up a piece of paper into pieces as small as I can get them.

Internalize it, feel my heart rate increase and bloodpressure rise until a papercut would squirt twelve feet.

When I'm doing something a little more healthy about it, loud music and singing helps, mosh pits are hard to come by, but amazing, absolutly amazing. Excercise in general. I used to be able to just let stress wash over me, but then again, I didn't used to have bills to pay. Martial arts would be good, havn't done that in too long. A game of pool with a friends and a pitcher of beer would be good, too, need to take that one up again.

I destress with different stress. I like video games that require lots of deeper level thought (as opposd to reflexive, surface level thought... don't ask, it's the fault of a long-ass convo Swordsie and I had.).

Also... Drinking and playing pool, or horseshoes. I won't fight or swordfight angry, but I'll work a pell over pretty good. Music. Cleaning the house.

No more than two at a time.

Exercise and different stress, somewhat along the lines of what honor described, were my typical methods of resolving stress buildup. But nothing was working this time around, the pressure was just too much to shrug off. On the other hand, something rather strange happened two nights ago, when I was still up with the insomnia that the stress had undoubtedly caused. A sense of complete ease washed over me, in a fashion that is difficult to describe. I broke.

This is unlike something I’d ever felt before, I have this sense of utter invulnerability, and have found myself doing things that I’d never do, with much frequency, since this occurrence, with absolutely no concern for the stress that I previously carried. Things that I would never do, like post this.

Sorry to play armchair psychologist, but that sounds like euphoria, a common sign of manic depression, specifically the manic side of things. If you're doing good things, fine, but if this leads to trouble... just sayin'. Don't want to see anyone up in a clock tower with a hunting rifle, grinning for all the world to see or nothing

Seriously, whatever's been eating at you, here's wishing you the best.

SCA fighting. Pummeling my friends with sticks (and being pummeled in return) lets off all sorts of stress. Exercise, loud noises, violence, adrenaline, and pain endorphins all rolled into one... it's the best stress relief I've ever found.

Music. Since I'm not in an environment where I am comfortable making a lot of noise or breaking things (both otherwise good stress relievers), I mute the electric viola and have a go at the old songs for an hour or so (or until my left arm cramps up to where I can't play anymore).
Definitely helps me to get my mind off of other things, if only for a little while.
