There's this place I frequent, called the Mousepad, It's a place where gamers can go and hang out, play on computers or various consoles, ot just sit around talking, reading, ow whatever. I spend so much time there I think I've become their unofficial mascot since everywhere I go around town people are asking me "Is the Mousepad open today?" "When does the Mousepad open?" "How's Gary[the owner]?" "Have you seen John[Gary's brother]?"

Anyway, there's this kid who frequents it, too. I never bothered to learn his name, I just know him as what he is; A seventeen year old child.

He's been heckling me alot recently, aparently because of the fact I'm in the National Guard. Like what transpired tonight; I was watching John play stronghold and talking about it, because I was curious about the game. John got up to walk behind the counter and asked, "So when you shipping out?"

I told him "Hopefully this month."

"What, they bump your shipdate back?"

"Yeah, I failed the run last drill."

Now, it was at this point that child butted in with "You failed getting into the Army?"

...

What fine ears this boy has, eh?

"No, I failed the eight minute mile I'm supposed to run."

"How can you not run a mile in eight minutes with your build?"

"Say that next time you get an infected ingrown toenail, and stub it-"

"I won't do that because I take care of my feet! It's so easy to be in the Army!"

"I don't see you enlisting."

"That's because I'm not stupid!"

He quicky degraded into petty insults; "You're just one of many!" "you don't matter!" "I don't even think you'd be worth looking up in a few years to see how much of a failure you've become!" "I'm gonna be a Psycologist and make peoples' lives better, You're going to come home in a bodybag!" "You're going to leave boot camp crying and come home to your mommy!" "You dropped out of Highschool to join the army, you idiot." "You should go to college and make something of yourself, you drop-out." "I know an E-9! He told me all about guys like you!" "You're gonna be a bitch! someone's fuck-buddy!"

Eventually I got pretty tired of his shit, and started shooting back with my own insults, none were particularly clever or noteworthy, basically, things like "You think you're any better?" and "What do you know of the military?"

He got really agitated and at last said "You walk home everynight! I have a car! Don't think I won't wait for you outside! I know where you live!"

I just told him "Go ahead and wait for me then, pussy. Give me Legal justification to kick your ass and press charges for assault. Try getting into a decent college with that stuck to you."

He left, And when I left several hours later, his ten year old, rusted out Ford was gone."

Just another child trying to act like a man.

Sadly, I may actually have to kick his ass if he keep this up.

I don't honor the military, but I don't go out of my way to heckle them either. If someone wants to sign up for an organization where he becomes a national resource to be used/abused at the whim of some other joker's politics, that's their business. Its not mine.

My advice. Kick the little twerp's ass.

Wait, he's bragging that he's going to be a psychologist and "make people's lives better", but he's then threatening to lie in wait for you as you're walking home and jump you? This is why everyone who wants to even be a licensed therapist has to do supervised field work and has to also do a specified number of hours of therapy. To weed out the psycho headcases.

I really don't know what his deal is, i sounds like he might be one of those "guns are bad, lets just hug each other all the time and be friends" up to the point where he threatened to kick your ass. WTF

perhaps he couldn't get into the army (or is afraid to try) and thus tries to make himself feel better by belittleling the people who did make it. He will learn all about stuff like that in his Psy classes.

but i'm just guessing. Even if i don't like the things that the millitary is ordered to do. I know that picking on individual soliders won't do anything but get my ass handed to me. And rightfuly so.

Just ignore the little fuck. You'll just get in trouble stomping a mud-hole in his ass. I do believe the UCMJ says something about assaulting civilians and minors.

I'd ignore him. I was an annoying punk kid myself not too long ago (depending on who you ask, I still am), and the overwhelming majority of annoying punk kids don't have enough guts to fill a teaspoon. I'd be really surprised if he actually attacked you. Moreover, even if you do give him the beating he richly deserves, it's likely you, not him, who's going to come out looking bad. "Well, Officer, this brat was pestering me, so I knocked him out. Well, yes, I am in training for the Army, and yes, he is just a highschool kid..."
Eventually he'll either give up or insult someone who has no qualms about clobbering smartasses. Either way, problem solved.

As for that kid: yet one more example of my theory that "some people are just stupid". I'd advise you to ignore him, or else avoid him. He's not worth the aggravation.

Part of his attitude comes from, I'm assuming, that naivete that he'll some how be able to do better, and [for many] part of being that age is the vast difference between what he will do, and what he pictures himself doing in an ideal setting, and he's comparing what you are, to what he pictures himself being. The fresh paint on the image of his future has yet to be mangled by flying bricks of reality. Sure none of us grew up to be exactly what we pictured we would be. Not saying that his behavior wasn't punishment-deserving, just that it likely has a root.

If this kid would have attacked you, he would likely be tried as if he were an adult if he dealt enough damage. Its just a shame you can't be tried as if he were an adult if you dealt enough damage.

I realize I'm posting a self-rightous "me too" here, but I have to admit....

I didn't join the army, although I had been tempted. I had a big mouth to boot.

However, I don't think I ever put down someone who did, and to this day, anyone I know shipping out gets a hearty handshake or hug. I know that may be the last time I'll see them

What you're giving to all of us now is a gift of your time, energy, and possibly life and limb (and that would even be the case in peacetime). What a society we live in where a selfish brat would claim superiority because he has a car and is going to attend college. He clearly doesn't have what you have to give, a life worth living.
