Extraordinaire...
I'm not sure if it has the hyphen.
It's just a snobby version of "extraordinary." Which is pronounced "ex-tror-din-ry", but I'm sure you know that.
Further shortening results in "stronry", which Tigger uses in "The House at Pooh Corner"
I am a literary genius, you see!
My dictionary tells me it's from the Latin "extraordinarius".
Which reminds me, while you're here with your Latin ability, translate for me:
"Acutus id verberat"

Shame on me....
Can't say I know that second bit either! Ack! Ask Arian, she'll know. I'm getting no further than (word-by-word) "sharply therefore he flogs" which makes no sense

But, thanks to Merryn, Webmistress Extra-ordinaire, the disclaimer's back! Woo <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.g ... -ordinaire - that's the word, right? I hear it on TV sometimes for tacky superheroes, but don't know exactly how to spell it
That, and in Dutch, 'ordinair' means er...boring, common, type stuff.
So I'm always confused about it! Oh, agony!
