Final Fantasy
Movie surpassed my expectations.<P>I mean, the animaton was awesome... that was a given.<P>But I didn't expect a good storyline... but yes there was and it followed the typical final fantasy type of story. Lots of similarities.<P>Anyway, if your a fan, this movie will be AWESOME.... if you don't know much about final fantasy, then it may not be as good as you won't be appreciating it as much.<P>------------------

I couldnt agree with you more. The movie is so good. Not just from the visuals ( best cgi ever ..best effects ever ) but it was also a good story and funny...the audience I seen it with lauphed many times. I kept hearinng the story is bas the story is bad..what ever it was so good for a sci fi movie...in fact one of the better sci fi movie story lines yet. Get this though..it actually had no chessy dialoge :O... I didnt think they could make a sci fi movie with out chessy annoying dialoge ...anyways I am going to see it again this weekend and if your a real man so will you ....latz

i only half agree with you guys. it was a great movie, effects wise. i mean, i talked to some people today who had no idea it was computer-generated, they thought all the characters were real. and everything looked awesome. all the effects were simply gorgeous and this is probably the biggest breakthrough/milestone/whatever in the history of movie effects. but seriously... the storyline wasn't my favorite. alien ghosts that were alive but now they're dead and when they touch you they steal your spirit? plus the whole Gaia/8 spirits thing kinda felt like a little too much. but yeah, the dialogue was great... well, except for the one half-annoying white guy in Gray's[sp?] squad. he kinda bugged, but not enough where i didn't like him. it also kinda felt like an extremely long cutscene too. but i dug it, mostly. 8 out of 10. yeah.
Only true Final Fantasy fans would have caught all the similarities of the storylines between the games and the movie... I could write at least 40 different similarities that they had. This movie WAS typical final fantasy. <P>And if anyone disagrees than just email me at jrcook@classicnet.net or catch me on AOL AIM at psylence19 and I can tell you all the similarities to prove it.<P>I just don't wanna do it here because I don't wanna spoil anything for those who have not seen it yet.<P>------------------

Just saw it. <P>It has some similarities, but not all that much to the games. It's hard to compare them since they are two different genres completely...but there were some similarities. <P>I thought it was okay. Admittedly, the visuals were incredible. The storyline was so-so. I agree with Usagi at the end of the movie...and there are a lot of gaping holes in certain plotlines...<P>They are ghosts right? They travel through the body and take the essence, right? Then how can they be destroyed with physical weapons? How is it that she "found" the eighth spirit in herself at the end? That was kinda shitty, I thought. How did the space station explode in the end? Was it Gaia defending herself, or was it just a system overload? Why would the James Woods character send Ben Affleck (might as well call him that) to oversee the mission (along with the people to watch them) when he could have just sent his own men? Just...a lot of stuff left out, or stuff that didn't make much sense...<P>Sometimes the words didn't match the mouths very well, but that's just a minor complaint. I found a lot of the humor to be lacking...and I didn't much buy into the romance in it. Luckily, they weren't the main focus of the movie.<P>Personally, I thought the movie was a lot of fun and great up until they left the space station. After that it just kinda went downhill. Still worth a B- at least, though. Very enjoyable, just nowhere near perfect.<P>------------------

Only word can come to mind about this movie:<P>"Feh."<P>Add more F and you can make people think you're tearing paper!<P>I wouldn't say it was THAT realistic. Maybe the dirt looked real, but there's still that fine line between animated people and real people that was easily noticeable.
Also! I think everyone's overlooking DreamWorks work in the CG movie department. Shrek was very well done, and I'm sure if they hadn't gone for the cartoonishness the movie was aiming for they probably could've done the same thing.
Also, I do believe no movie can ever beat the greatness that is..."Mary-Kate and Ashley's Great Pirate Mystery". NEVER.

If I wanna go see a movie with realism, I'll go watch a movie with REAL PEOPLE. I want my cartoons! I like it when people get hit by axes and live, because then they can come back to life and get shot.
I also agree with whoever mentioned the ghost thing. That's so stupid. There were no "fantastic" elements in this movie.
It was a lame scifi movie about Earth and phantoms. I'd rather watch "Ernest Scared Stupid" if I wanna get spooked.
Sure there were similarities in this movie between the FFs. Cid was in it. There were 8 spirits, yada yada yada. I don't care. All right, so the point is: No matter how realistic cartoons are going to get, it doesn't make them great. And no cheesy dialogue? Hohoho! I've never been so bored by a movie before.
After seeing this movie, I don't think I'll ever touch my SNES again. I shudder to think! Square has ruined everything for me!

First off i want to note i've seen Final Fantasy twice and both times i loved it. The animation was incredible and it had a great storyline. I also wanted to reply to mandingo's questions. The guns they have destroyed the phantoms because they used phantom energy. Docter Cid found that phantoms had a energy wave in them just like all living things. They use that energy to power everything. So since the guns used phantom energy the blast hit like a bullet to phantoms.
The space station exploded because it was overloaded. The General didnt send "Ben Affleck" his commander did. But he didnt trust him so he send his lackies.<P> <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by mandingo:

Uhm. There was humor in FF? I must've missed it. From a never-played-the-games-before standpoint, I thought the movie was good. It had awesome visuals and it was truly amazing to see, but the plotline was a little too religious for me. It was basically The Rapture, but with "alien" souls. Was a bit lengthy to sit through too. When it was over, Mofo (as you guys call him) and I looked at one another and basically agreed it was a renter.
