What are you looking forward to? I left some things out, but purposefully... Pearl Harbor and A.I. haven't really grabbed me yet. Pearl Harbor looks like it's the opposite of Saving Private Ryan... almost exploitive, like they took an action movie formula and decided to slap it onto a real historical event. I dunno, it just gives me these trashy vibes for some reason.
As for A.I., I think I'm just getting sick of that Osment kid. I can only hear so much about how talented or mature or bright this kid is. I'm sure he's a joy to work with and all, and he was good in The Sixth Sense, but... ehhh. I don't know where I'm going with this. He's just starting to grate me.
------------------

Con Air was directed by Simon West, the guy who did The General's Daughter. Bay did Bad Boys and Armageddon (and The Rock) with Bruckheimer (and the late Don Simpson for the most part)producing.
Still, a quality combination. I'll probably be in line for Pearl Harbor. Can't get enough of watching the Japan-Japs pound the shit outta .. the Hawaii-Japs..! What gives?
Go fo' broke!
Ahahahah. The guy who did the general's daughter.

Small Wonder! I used to have to sit through Star Search in order to see it... It's only recently that I've realized how absolutely disturbing that show was. But, yeah, A.I. looks like Bicentennial Man in reverse. And we all know how well that went.
Anyway, as for Pearl Harbor, yeah, that's what it looks like, basically. I also noticed something in the clips I saw: no Hawaiians. It's all white folks. And Cuba Gooding Jr. Even the extras. I've never been to Hawaii or anything, but this seems suspicious. Maybe Usagi can shed some light on things.
------------------

But, let us dissect this a little further.
Well, since I wasn't really alive in 1941, I can't tell you a whole hell of a lot about the demographics of Hawaii at the time, save for one little statistic I picked up while writing a paper on the 442nd. The reason that there were no concentration camps in Hawaii is that some 30% of the population were Japanese. So, it's a safe bet to say that the population was predominantly NOT white. 'Cept for the military.
"But Usagi, isn't that who works at Pearl Harbor?"
In a word, no. In fact, MrQuik's uncle worked at Pearl Harbor and decided not to show up for work that day. Lucky or tipped off?! You decide. Tell 'em, MrQuik.
"Yup."
See?
You've been learned.

Y'know... that made sense to me and all, but I can't help to think that was horribly out of context for anyone else who might stumble by. Heh.
Bottom line, he agreed with me! Something's fishy in Hollywoodland.
------------------

At some point, there was talk of remaking Small Wonder. I wonder how much creepier it would be with today's sensibilities. It'd prolly just be made for Mtv softcore...
------------------

Why aren't there any Hawaiian actors in Pearl Harbor? Simple, they were all afraid the camera would steal their souls!! Nah, think about it...quick name a famous hawaiian actor!..........Time's up. Other then the Rock, *I* certainly can't think of any.
And since so many people have brought it up, let me just take this moment to express my utter disgust at the whole Planet of the Apes thing. It's just one more sign of the dying originality out there. I mean come the fuck on!! WHY?!?!? What did something get left out of the 14 sequels they had? PotA is one movie that just didn't need to be made. Hollywood is just rife with sequel-ism and remakes. 102 Dalmations? Charlie's Angels? Shaft? Along Came a Spider? Josie and the Pussycats? Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (you know the movie is going to suck when they have to put the setting in the title)? Hannibal? Jurassic Park 3? And now Planet of the Apes....The only good thing I can say about it is, the more time burton spends of PotA, the less he spends on making Monkeybone 2.
And what's wrong with the last few bunch of summer movies? I liked Gladiator, Shanghi Noon, The Patriot, Gone in 60 Seconds, U-571, The Perfect Storm, and X-Men. The summer before that I liked Entrapment, The Matrix, The Mummy, South Park, Summer of Sam, 6th Sense, Blair Witch, Mystery Men, and even Ep. 1 was good for a summer movie.
off the the high horse
------------------

Well, seeing as how it looks like Jason X won't be coming out this month, not a damn one.
I've never heard of A.I. Pearl Harbor will probably be just another war movie with high special effects, and probably lots of gore. I think it's funny how lenient on the ratings the MPAA is on war movies, but in horror films, every other frame has to be trimmed out some. Planet of the Apes doesn't look much better than the original series. The make-up jobs still look odd. And everything else has yet to grab my attention.
There is a movie coming out that is either called or has the tag line "Evolve" that has a three-eyed smiley that looks really close to the three-eyed smiley from Transmetropolitan. I wanna know what that's about.
Yep.

Alright, first off I don't really like Tim Burton. I think with Sleepy Hollow that he's finally starting to learn the lesson that he should tell a good story without letting his imagery take over. Bottom line: the set is NOT more important than the story... That said, now I defend him. As far as I know, he had nothing at all to do with the festering pile of celluloid that is Monkeybone.
And I cannot wait for his Apes film...
------------------

Oh come on....You're actually going to call Kelly Preston, Nicole Kidman, and Bette Midler "hawaiian"? Shit, Cuba Gooding Jr. looks more hawaiian then them. Sub-Zero's about as close as you came, but I dunno if he counts as famous. And hey if you can include Pat Morita 'cause he lives there, then what's wrong with the Rock? He and his family lived there too! That's why I say he's hawaiian.
apostacy
------------------

PLANET OF THE AAAAAAAAAAAPES!!!!!
Now if they'd only adapt that musical version!!
And let's not forget Final Fantasy. Probably a waste of time and a big piece of crap, but who cares. They tried. I'll never understand space fantasies, unless they're about hot alien chicks with four hoots. Total Recall blew my mind with that one. But I digress.
I hate theaters, and so I'll probably be doing a lot of Blockbuster movie watching. So don't ruin any endings for me, as I'll be watching them six months later.
Remember that show Eight is Enough? Small Wonder was funtastic. But it can't compare to ALF or My Secret Identity. Let's hear it for Dr. J!

But How often do they show that many extras in the trailer? All the scenes I've seen have either been panoramic landscape ones with planes or out and out fighting. There's not much room for hawaiian extras in those type of scenes. We'll just have to wait for the movie to open and see if they fill the background with savages.
Wait, Wait, Wait....guy crashes on planet, said planet contains lots of apes, said apes are in charge and ruling over humans, new guy fights against the afore mentioned apes.....mmmhm sounds like an entirely different movie to me alright...And even if it is different from the first one, taking more stuff from the book to make another movie does not count as being original either.
------------------

Kelly Preston
Bette Midler
Nicloe Kidman
Erin Grey
Sub Zero from The Running Man.
Then, there're a slew from Baywatch: Hawaii. AND THEY ALL GET NEKKID.
Pat Morita's not FROM Hawaii, but he lives there. Cary Tagawa, too! Heh. But they want to make a movie with GOOD actors. Therefore, Keanu Reeves is excluded.
In addition, Im not sure Tim Burton had very much at all to do with Monkeybone. He designed some of the effect and costumes, but the majority was not done by him. Very similar to the Nightmare Before Christmas, though that was a great flick. Just a little clarification, if it's that at all.

But we weren't talking about people born in hawaii, or people who SHOULD be considered hawaiian, we were talking about famous actors who are hawaiian and LOOK it. If they don't look like they're hawaiian, then Ben Affleck may as well play the part. And I said the Rock lived there, like he used to in the past. And I think living somewhere and having roots and family there counts for more then simply being born there. Hell, I was born in Germany, but I wouldn't consider myself a European.
------------------
