1.) Damn straight.
2.) Other than kicking the stupid out of those people with some iron-capped Doc Martens there really IS no way of preventing drunk driving. And I believe there's a law against that method.
3.) No. It's happened around me, though.
6.) They'd figure out a way to circumvent it within a week.
7.) No.
8.) I don't believe it'd be effective, and I don't drive drunk (I don't get drunk at all), but if there was such a law, I'd pay.
9.) If the law required it, yes.
10.) Ditto.

1) Do you feel that the penalties for Drunk Driving are insufficient for the magnitude of the crime?
Considering I am somehow ignorant of the exact penalties, besides the exorbitant fines and the loss of one's license..Im not sure.
2) In your opinion, have the preventative measures taken against Drunk Driving been insufficient?
What measures? There is no real method of institutionalizing the prevention of drunk driving, because it is a person-to-person thing. They say "friends don't let friends drive drunk" because thats a far as it -can- go. Its up to us to bring the rates down among ourselves by exerting self-control, and God help the people who have noone to stop them and who cannot stop themselves.
So, No.
3) Have you ever lost a friend or family member to a Drunk Driving related accident? (if no, move onto question 6)
No.
6) Do you think that having breathalyzers installed into a vehicle

I SAY WE JUST LEGALIZE WEED AND MAKE BEER ILLEGAL! I know I can smoke a bowl and drive, but if I've been drinking for a while I "can't" drive but I still do, my luck hasn't ran out and I haven't hit anyone or killed myself, doing weed, or beer. but I still think smoking a joint while behind the wheel is safer, even if both are stupid.

and yes I have lost people behind the wheel while consuming alchohal, and yes they were VERY close friends I can't even to begin to sympathise for any one that has lost a familymember as I did too, and I'm sorry if you did. Last summer one of my great uncles fucking wasn't drinking and was with his 9 year old nephue, and his 5 year old sister, they were hit head on by a drunk drive. ot killed him, the boy and his wife, the 5 year old lived but she will have to have reconstructive surgury for a long time to get rid of the scares on her face. I really miss all of them and I hate the bastard that did it. and I think he got off EASY, the drunk driver was driving on no licence and the vehicle wasn't insured. so the family got fucked royaly and almost got nothing outta it, the guy also only got 2 years in jail for the crime which I think was totally bullshit.... ok I'm done... now what was the questions again? heh

1) Do you feel that the penalties for Drunk Driving are insufficient for the magnitude of the crime?
Well that depends on were you live. not gonna go into details, but in the US the drinking age is 21 which I think is totally stupid, you need to get kids started young and get their tollerance, kinda like every other fucking country out there does. "hey kid can you see over the bar?" "yes if I stand on my tip toes" "ok heres a round on the house"

2) In your opinion, have the preventative measures taken against Drunk Driving been insufficient?
More abboying than anything.. i get sick of hearing all the crap on tv and radios about it.
3) Have you ever lost a friend or family member to a Drunk Driving related accident? (if no, move onto question 6)
YES....
4) Do you feel that the punishments were too severe?
no they weren't severe enough..by far.. now my friends that killed themselves by driving out in the middle of the country there really wasn't anything to do in the court systems for them, it was their own faults for hitting a colvert

5) Do you feel the preventative measures against
? ook...
6) Do you think that having breathalyzers installed into a vehicle

1) Do you feel that the penalties for Drunk Driving are insufficient for the magnitude of the crime?

No more so than manslaughter, reckless endangerment, fraud, theft and a host of other crimes. Alas, responsibility is not mandated by law.

2) In your opinion, have the preventative measures taken against Drunk Driving been insufficient?

Insufficient, yes. Correctably so, no. The 'right' to drive is so ingrained in the American conscience that most citizens would laugh at you were you to point out that it is a privelege which may be revoked without reason and would be indignantly upset if that were to happen to them. As long as this is the universal perception then no law will make any headway into the problem stemming from this.

3) Have you ever lost a friend or family member to a Drunk Driving related accident?

Yes. Lost, crippled, injured... all of the above.

4) Do you feel that the punishments were too severe?

5) Do you feel the preventative measures against

Are inadequate? The best preventative measure is instilled in the home. If your parents raise you right, you don't do this. I've said it before: it doesn't take a village. It takes two parents.

6) Do you think that having breathalyzers installed into a vehicle?s ignition would be a practical way to reduce incidents of Drunk Driving?

Impossible. The ACLU vows to fight tracking systems inside of vehicles to monitor safety and reduce theft by law enforcement as an infringement on the 'right' of people to move about how they please. The breath test could only be installed voluntarily into cars and only for those who can afford such. So figure the odds this'll fly anywhere people hold to their 'right' to drive.

7) Do you feel that it would an intolerable infringement on individual freedom to be required to breathe into a Breathalyzer while starting a vehicle?

Frankly, yes. I acquired a license which states I've passed both a written and performance test, part of which is acknowledging the laws about driving under the influence. If I cannot be trusted to operate a vehicle within the laws provided then why am I granted the privelege of operating a two ton vehicle capable of speeds in excess of 100MPH, unsupervised through metroploitan and residential areas?

 Would you be willing to pay a $100.00 installation fee if it meant getting a Breathalyzer installed into your vehicle?

No. See above.

9) Would you be willing to have a Breathalyzer installed if it meant lower rates on your insurance?

No. Principally because I believe it will not reduce rates or reduce them sugnificantly enough to be worthwhile. Also, if I do not drink and drive, why would I need such a thing? Unlike an airbag, I would not accidently get drunk behing the wheel. Drinking and driving is deliberate, not incidental.

10) Would you be willing to get the Breathalyzer installed even if it did not mean lower insurance?

Still no.

Laws are made to handle situations where one person wrongs another or perceives to have been wronged by another and to resolve such. When they are made to govern how people act is when laws are used for purposes of tyranny, no matter how benign.

1) Do you feel that the penalties for Drunk Driving are insufficient for the magnitude of the crime?
You kill someone driving, you should be charged with manslaughter/murder IMHO ....the drunk bit would be a side charge
If you don't kill or injure, the current penalties with a ban / retest before relicencing would be sufficient
2) In your opinion, have the preventative measures taken against Drunk Driving been insufficient?
Yes, but thats because its easier and more profitable to gouge the speeding motorists using cameras.....and you don't need to pay policemen.

No.

I think that the idea of forcing tests on people before they can perform an everyday task because some break the law is pure idiocy! To me that says, 'Well, everyone is going to break the law, its just a matter of time', so i would personally oppose it. Besides that just reminds me too much of the CBDTPA (or SSSCA or whatever the call it today)...
