MSEE: Passed.

Post by Allan_ecker »

So, I am now a Master of Science in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Good for me.

Not only that, but I get a fun job that will pay me a more than adequate living wage.

Also good for me.

I'm a little embarassed, however, that all I'm really feeling right now, is relief in the fact that I can now lie on my ass for an unprecedented three weeks before I have to even -think- about engineering again.

Of course, I did just spend three months working 60-hour weeks on a paper that delved so far into obscurity that the paper itself does not begin to translate into english.

Don't believe me? Have a look for yourself:

Bravo and congradulations, Allan. A three week vacation is nothing to feel guilty for since it is a reward for the hard work and tremendous amount of personal wealth invested in getting your Master's Degree. You should, however, feel guilty if the only good you will do with that for the world is make cell phones smaller. I mean, this is the year 2000+... shouldn't we have rocket packs, giant robots and laser beams? Smaller cell phones. Really, that's it. Feh!

Ah, but I'm designing oscilloscopes, friends. You need those to do... anything. The beauty of working for Tektronix is that we're in the buisniess of making everything work better.

awesome work!

so do you think you might work for a few years and then go back for a doctorate, or just keep writing papers until they hand you one?

You missed a hyphen on page 41.

But seriously, excellent work. Congratulations, and enjoy your three weeks of freedom. ^^

You lose! Good day, sir!

While that may be true, Allan will spend those two months and one week earning pay appropriate to one with his education and skill. Advantage: Allan.

Yay for you, Allan! Congratulations!

But a little part of me giggles at the term "Master of Science".

Another part smirks at calling you a "Master" in general.

You're making my head feel funny with the mental images. They look really, really, weird.

Doesn't look all that obscure to me. Looks more scientific.

If you want obscure, give this a try: My Doctoral Dissertation.

Chapter 1 shouldn't be all that obscure. (I've put it in a separate file for the curious.) Anyone with basic science-literacy should be able to follow it and get the basic gist.

If you want not only obscure, but arcane and esoteric, read chapter 2 (first link).

Your thesis, Allan, is quite clear by comparison. ;)
"The incredibly powerful and the incredibly stupid both have one thing in common: They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They try and alter the facts to fit their views.

Which can be awfully uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering." -- Dr. Who

...non-idealities... *grin*

I knew there was a reason I prefer engineering to english.

Usually easier to stick to the laws of physics than the laws of grammar...

anyway, thanks for the link, I look forward to reading it just I've been meaning to get around to Alfy's three mile island report for at least a few months now so don't expect feedback from me before you've got tenure.

However, if you account for non-linear time, then you will see that I have already recceived all the education I need, averted numerous disasters, proven that the chance of any one god existing is roughly equal to the relative atomic mass of an electron, constructed a mobile suit and am now settling down to write an autobiography.

Tut-tut, Hat-kun. If we were taking non-linear time into account then you would not have been attempting to taunt the Ecker with a linear accounting of time. Points taken off the final score for the Hat-kun due to poor application of a rhetorical argument. Final tally shows the victory belongs to Allan. Image

Now, now, people, we're all operating on the lee side of eternity. There's no telling at this point which one of us is going to take over the world and re-dedicate humanity's efforts perpetually to an existence of exploration, freedom, and a good fling now and then.

Y'all will of course have to beat me to it.
