Okay, kids, the party's over!!!
Yes, I have returned from Mexico, and for those of you who might have been worried, no, I did not contract any horrible diseases, shots or no shots. ;)
The children's home I was staying at is awesome, a big three-story Mexican house with a tiled courtyard and everything... very clean. San Luis Potosi (the city we were in) is actually quite beautiful. The buildings are very colorful and all the signs are painted on the sides of buildings... (mostly coke signs, but oh well) and there are tonnes of Volkswagens. I mean, seriously, you can't look for a block down the street without seeing at least one old bug, and there's a few new ones, too.
We helped paint in their church (tiny church connected to the house), played with the kids (they're very smart and a WHOLE lot nicer than american kids, though they could be pretty ornery at times, too), cut weeds at the bible college down there (it's all desert, BTW, so everything had needles or thorns on it), went hiking in the hills, went to a 500 year old abandoned (well, mostly, anyway) mining town and explored there, went to church and sang songs in Spanish, played soccer (we lost to the kids, 3-2) and had to remember not to flush the toilet paper down the toilet.
All in all, it was a great experience. But it's good to be home! :)

How many pieces of spam accumulated during your trip?
What colour was the church/is it now?
Do you speak spanish? :)
(Um, Sox, there have been people in Central America since 20,000 BC http://weber.ucsd.edu/~anthclub/quetzalcoatl/map2.htm )

Sure I do know, but the term "mining town" didn't seem to me like a word for something founded by the natives, but made me think that the Conquestadori more had their hands in it.Spectre_Eric wrote:(Um, Sox, there have been people in Central America since 20,000 BC http://weber.ucsd.edu/~anthclub/quetzalcoatl/map2.htm )

Hmm, from what I recall of my Central American history, in general the land is poor for mining but the Aztecs still managed to build vast cities, mining the stone and minerals from the far corners of their empire. This implies smaller settlements dedicated to quarrying.
Still, you're probably right about the term being too "common" for a historic site.
Perhaps we're both right? :)

Hola! Buenos Nachos! Hasta la Huevos! Ummm......wait a minute....
(Oh, and I did once accidentally say "Buenos nachos" to a security guard at a hotel in Mexico City. The words were sitting there in my head. I knew they were in my head. I thought I could issue a simple greeting without them entering the queue and escaping out my mouth. I was wrong. The guard acted like that was the funniest thing anyone had said to him his entire life. He laughed at me for weeks...)

The big question is... Once you've had weasel sticks, can you ever go back?

Apologies, did I knock your grammer lately?Crash wrote: (and Tobias, please don't knock my grammar. At least I didn't come up with "Stein Auf", altho I think it's a pretty cool phrase. Copy?)
Can`t recall... *thinks hard*
Anyway, I never said I don`t like "Stein Auf"; it sounds a lot better then the more grammatically correct "Fels An".

No, that's not what I meant at all. I just know that my German is so rusty, I risk getting blood poisoning every time I try to use it. It's just that the last person from Germany that I knew would always correct my grammar. Not that it annoyed him or anything, but it wasn't correct, and he didn't like the inaccuracy, so he would patiently tell me where I had made a mistake each time. I found it rather funny, just a personal quirk. He was studying to be a software engineer, so I think that explains part of it, and he had a very meticulous personality.TwoDifferentSox wrote: Apologies, did I knock your grammer lately?

Actually, the REAL issue here is that I didn't have any German in my post. See, when I was composing it , I did, so I put that line in, but then I took the German out, so....yeah.
Someone just kick me in the shins, please.
