And the twists keep on coming...
Ok, status check: we have an alternate dimension (possibley) where half the cast is missing, sci-fi is outlawed, relationships and personalities are different, and now we have megalomaniacs from the future assasinating the president. Oh, and half of the regular characters just died. God I love this comic
Ok, who wants to put bets down on who the general is going to be?
------------------

Rasputin was the first thing I thought of when I read his name. Appropriate kind of person to give Rasputin-esque overtones to, I think.
Got me wondering, though, is he trying to preserve history is he knows it, or create it in the first place? Day of the Daleks or Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World?
And yes, you should thank me for not mentioning Back to the Future in this post. Or would have, if I'd not mentioned not mentioning it. Oh bugger...
Nullset out.

Heheh, supercool... could be nepotism at its finest, with Kath being the General together with her daughter aspiring to rule the world... fun idea!!
As for Respin, I can't wrap my mind around him being any sort of incarnation of any of the normal main Fans characters... so I still think he's just a lackey. To further the nepotism idea, maybe he's Kath's daughter's father.. (or Kath's daughter's father's older brother's dog's littermate's owner...)

Ahhh, I FORGOT about the 23-sider of power, Schol-R-Lea!! That just lends more credibility to the Kath-hypothesizers in my view, since her deepest wish/weakness since the very beginning of the comic has been a lust for power that was overwhelming in some instances, and overwhelmed her good judgment. That would be the perfect excuse for her to become megalomaniacal... and as to why she would attack imagination? Well, she's smart, she's a chess player (which may be why she took a military title? Chess strategy and war strategy are very similar creatures), she knows that her enemies are likely to be the outside-thinkers, so to inoculate herself against a coup, she might wish to take out those who are "subversive," those who pose a threat...
That's what my money's on. But then, I've been wrong every other time so far!!! ^.^ And I DO still like the Will/Wilhelmina idea...
I don't know who Respin is, but there is one thing about him I do know:
Rumi is going to seriously kick his ass. Yes! Rumi fight!
------------------

Here's an idea: if Kath is the General, maybe Respin is her son. We know that in the normal reality she had two children that she gave to adoption; maybe in this timeline she kept them, and they fed her ego and joined her in her quest for power? Hmmmmmmmm.
------------------

Well, why Kath? In an alternate history, what is likely to NOT happen (since it is an inherently random event) is that she doesn't get pregnant... in which case she might have been totally differant from the 'real' Kath. Rick and Rumy don't seem to different though (barring the fact that Rick seems to have realized about Rumy, and not met with Alisin, but still basically what they were in the other world... Rick still is a strong leader... Rumi still has the 'graphic' mind, so she's probably still an artist...)... Thack, yes, different... But wait a minute... Thack was a weak, evil computer super-genius in one world. In the the other... he is a slightly more strengthened, better meaning guy, but still with the same genius... (I wonder... those laser guns... made in both worlds... curious.) Kev seems like could be the same guy... Jones? A slight, but not hard jump from what he was just a little while ago...
So... the only real difference is Thack being good and that the nation went looney. Of course, that isn't a hard jump... I doubt any of the Fans are too far from what they are in the other world...
I hope that sounded coherent. Sometimes I ramble...

Heh, seemed pretty coherent to me...
You forgot one thing, though - in the 'normal' timeline, Thack didn't seem too brave - or cowardly, for that matter; he didn't seem quite HUMAN. He varied between Borg-like emotionlessness and, at his closest, enraged or somewhat perverted (namely, the almost-hentai scene where he used those wire-tendrils against Shanna).
Alternate Thack seemed a LOT more human than his counterpart, even taking into account the switch 'tween good and evil...
Well, that's my opinion, anyhoo.
------------------
