My 2 cents on the matter is that T is messing around with the chars in situations that won't really affect the main story,(Throw Switch 'never really happened' for the main people involved, remember?) just for fun. Or experemenation, but thats the same thing. Throw Switch 'never really happened' for the main people involved, remember? And with this being either a manga, an A/U, or somebody flarked with the timestream, then this too, wil not have happened. All these theories are backed with the strategic placing of a different artist, to further the 'this is NOT happening' feeling.
I for one, am enjoying the hell out of it.
Yay for standalone arcs!
And as for who the General is, remember. She called herself the General.(Caus, really. Any of these folks actually going up within the military, let alone joining?) Who is most likely to do that? In my eyes, that cuts Kath, Jackie, and Rumi out. So.... its either Alisin or Shanna. Or somebody out of the blue, like a new char.

Here's a scary thought. Assuming that this universe followed the main timestream to some degree, what if the General is Rick and Alisson's kid?
Of course, that would make me wonder why Jones is suddenly a pansy, since he isn't in the main.
As for the manga theory, here's another curve. When the blast hit the teleporter, it went through and shattered. When it hit Rick, it went through and left a shatter mark on his torso. When it hit Thack, it stopped on his neck and left kind of a splotchy thing. Then the assassin raised the power to kill the Pres and Thack.
Possibly it's the artist's rendition, but I like to think deeper.
------------------
A ghost is an hallucination of some famous regret, no more. Ghosts are mistakes that we've made. They come not from beyond the pale, but rise up from our gravest doubts about ourselves. Each ill-considered thing that we have done is a ghost that haunts us. If we let it. Regret is for the foolish, the weak, the tormented. Kill it before it bleeds you dry...
- LaCroix, "Forever Knight"
There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good

To me it seems, the Odds stand as follows.

6-1 with a 4-1 taking into account to 24 sider of power, Is Katherine.
We all remember Her past as Queene, as well as her Mental Chess game with Sully and Miller, Prehaps she has thrown off the shackles of being the most powerful peice, to being the most important. While some think she wouldnt stop at General, it is clear whoever the General is, is the creme of the Crop and the Top of the top. This only lends more creedence to the katherine theory.
8-1 Shanna: Reclusive fan by nature, Psychotic at times, at a definate mental case, with the Twenty four sider of power in her hands, could her runaway fandom finally come to a full head, causing her to revert upon herself and becoming, in effect, the Anti-Fan? It could be..
10-1 Rumi, This one seems to be one of the popular ones, Rumi, Hardened by years of strife and grief, Finally succumbs to the Inevitable, and Takes position as supreme General, sending agents back in time to assure her rule.
11-1 Will (Or Rather, Willehmna) This seems to be a Very popular one, but highly unlikely in my opnion, His father being in the military, might explain the title of "General" but I cant think of any other evidence at the moment.
one million to One Trudi: Can you say surprise crossover? I know you can!

Alright - we also haven't re-met the new faces people but I forget them so budumpdum:
Add up odds for the following:
Sully, in contact with Jones, really really frickin' evil when necessary, the eyepatch really does it.
Shanna, who else would crusade against imagination?
Girl under the tree reading Clarke, why not?
Of course you could ADD to Kaths odds with the whole mind control device and all...
------------------

Casting votes? Then I go for Kath, with her dominating personality, and her old hopes for power.
But if not, then my next two choices are Shanna, in anti-fan mode, or Alisin. Alisin's parents were rich lawyer types, right? In this universe, perhaps she grew up just fine and normally. Without having been inflicted by her disease, she grows up with the best education, and had no reason to go into her Goth mode, but still has deep wants of being in a 'dominating' role. She joins the military, and quickly ascends the ranks, and somewhere along the way develops anti-fan leanings. Yeah
But my money's on Kath anyhow.

The title General makes me think of David Mack's comic: "Kabuki: Circle of Blood," with the old, wrinkled self-titled "General" commanding the chess pieces stylized to look like the characters of the Noh circle. So General in my head makes me think of chess, instead of the more obvious military applications, and the only person we've seen who plays chess with PEOPLE and their reaction is Katherine. So, too obvious or not, my money is also on Katherine...!! ^.^
Waiting for T to prove me wrong... ^.^
--------------------

My own humblest of opinions. In fact, I'm going to lay odds on who I think it is and isn't, based on the suggestions given, plus a suggestion or two of my own (marked by *).
Akane: Rumi's sister, controlling and dominant, but hardly manipulative. I don't think it's her because she'd be more likely to conform rather than lead.
Will(hemina): Barbarian. Not as far as manners or gentleness, but in fighting style. He's the tank, much like myself, more comfortable causing damage than leading parties. Take also into account his loyalty to all his friends no matter what the circumstance, and we nearly have a no as far as the general is concerned.
Sully: Vampire, and more imaginative than her mun-TV-show counterpart, it is VERY possible that she is behind this. However, given the fact that she has been moe content to follow Miller's lead, I don't see her as the General.
Kath: IMHO, too obvious, believe it or not. She has a jones to lead. She is willing to manipulate her friends and family to be in control. But in the past she's been far more subtle.
Shanna: A very good prospect. "You can't kill imagination with imagination". However, SHanna has proven that she has imagination to spare (See her at the gaming table at the first Con in italy.) The ONLY thing that makes her doubtful in my eyes is that, by the statements made by her lacky, this person is not truly trying to destroy imagination, she is using the "subversive fandom" angle to bring about her own end.
Alisin: Another highly possible. Possibly responding to a jilting from Rikk in favor of Rumi, and healed of her disease by an extract of Goddess, she could pool her resources to bring this about. Rikk, however, died far too easily, and her own confession of being riddled with drugs and having little short term memory leads me away from this.
Rumi: I'm sorry, I don't see it. I am blinded, admittedly, by infatuation, but she seems far too loyal. I do give credence to the fact that she's capable of it, but the look on her face when she called "him" (Big Red) was too real. She would also, more likely than not, send her agents back in time to save Rikk, not to ensure he died.
*Jaquie: Far too little is known about her. With her enthusiasm for British lore, she'd more likely submite herself as Queen than General.
Rumi's Roommie: I like her as a choice, but she's so conscious of other people's opinions, and hardly imaginative. Perhaps as a higher cog, but not as a general. (Credit goes to Shatteredtower for thinking of this possibility first.)
Magaret (And, again, credit to Bushipunk for thinking this one up first, even in jest. I thought I was clever ): Wanting to take control of her own fate, and seeing fandom as attracting her ultimate enemy, she takes steps to wipe it out or control it. Again, the thing that "Respin" said makes me think that's not the case after all.
In the end, I'm sure it will be a surprise AND explained. I, for one, can't wait.
------------------

I just had a chilling thought.
Rikk has a little sister, right?
If she's anything like their mother, and has leadership and tactical abilty in common with her sibling, and this is "a" future . . . she could have risen to the rank of General, decided that Fandom corrupted her dear older brother, and decided the best way to keep others from falling into the same sinful trap . . . and maybe save Rikk himself . . . would be to destroy fandom.
Zippthorn
