Good question, Tom. It may have something to do with my near-total absence from Skiffy meetings this year... I'm just getting too old even for "alumnal" status, though I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of 'em at NekoCon this weekend!
Anybody else?

Well, I know Rumy-chan has been in, out, and around these boards fro more than a year now, and I got started this last summer when I saw a topic that pertained to me. I have no idea when TheDarkOtaku started posting, and of course, T and Maccabee are Old Skiffy, from before the time known as The Golden Age (when a "Rikk" figure led a smaller club, including some familiar faces from FANS!). We are approaching something we already refer to as The Platinum Age, as tensions are low among club members and we accomplish actual goals. It doesn't hurt that I'm the weirdest alum who still shows up, too! ^_~

I don't know any other Skiffyites who post regularly here -- anyone feel free to speak up if I missed you!

--GB

"Stop talking about sex and turn on Rocky Horror!" --Maccabee (quote stolen from Rumy-chan)

Hey T, I was wondering about all the Skiffy (sp?) members that seem to be posting on the boards lately. I was wondering why it's taken them this long to be active. Was there a reunion lately and they just now found out about Fans! or have they just been lurking?
I suppose this question goes out to all YOU as well. *waggles finger around at the posters in question*
------------------

One more Skiffy member has delurked!
Well, I was a frequent reader of both the comic and the bulletin boards until the crossover, when I didn't want to read an entire new comic, so I stopped following FANS! I came back about a week and a half into the Rings storyline.
I intend to stick around on this board, when I have the time, so you may very well see a lot more of me here.

So if T is Rumi (as admitted to me by His High Holy T-Ness himself), who ARE all you people? And what is Skiffy? And are you all REALLY from Jersey?

Oops, almost forgot. "Skiffy" is the nickname of the College's Science Fiction and Fantasy Club: "Sci-fi" pronounced as Latin would be more accurtaely "skeefee," and the name somehow stuck. We are all students (or former students) of our beloved College, although we honestly don't save the world as often as the FANS! do. Half as often, at most.

--GB

"Next you're going to tell me that Miki was a boy, right?"

All our regulars are composite characters. Both T and I recognize elements of our own personalities in most of our regular cast -- this was deliberate, of course.
For instance, I share Tim's sometimes disgusting sense of humor, Will's love of theater, Kath's love of history, Guth's tendency towards intellectual snobbery, Rikk's messianic "we can save the world" outlook (fading in old age), Jackie's adoration of Doctor Who... not that T necessarily drew any of these traits from me specifically, though I was one of the ingredients in the mix. As for how much of T there is in each character, that can be rather personal and I won't speak for him.
Maccabee

Rumy-chan saw herself in Rumy, and so adopted the monicker -- in reality, she bears a much more striking resemblance to Jackie in that she is a seiyuu and anglophile and theatre person and adopts a British accent.

I see myself in Will -- biggest guy in the club, blonde, loads of costumes (five for NekoCon!), has a huge water gun, dated an anglophile/seiyuu/&c. But I majored in something a little less useful than theatre -- English.

"Tim" was a large, loud, ob/noxious, hairy guy who spent a little too much time naked for most people's tastes.

Both "Katherine"s tended to be controlling (although I never dated either), and one was our SCA seneschal for years.

"Shanna" was a little more stiff until she found her niche in our group; she ended up writing a thesis on the behavour patterns of Skiffy people, including yours truly.

"Rikk" is a little bit of a mystery, but the fellow that most closely resembles him was an excellent leader, and the motivational force behind a great number of Skiffy activities for years. He had more imagination than speeches, though. "Guth" (I think) was his right-hand man, most of the time, and really good friends with "Tim" until some stupid argument.

(There are also a number of characters, like Clara Strudenberry and the frighteningly accurate nerd twins from the first comic, who bear striking resemblances to other former Skiffy members. "Alisin" is apparently based on someone outside Skiffy, but she came in during Rumy-chan's 'goth' phase ...)

As for Jersey? Nope, southern Virginia. "Billsburg" is some indication where. ^_^

--GB

"Oh my god! Touga was gay?!?"
