The poll
The poll(s?) glych posted this morning aren't working. However, based on the subject lines, I'm guessing she wants us to tell her what in want in relation to the new NS, although I'm not sure if that's Re: format, content, or what. Until the poll gets working, this is the thread to tell her.
I want to see NS the web comic return, supplimented by print comics a la CRFH!!!.
As far as content, I don't really care as long as it comes regularly...*urk*
*ominious silence*
OK! OK! I want to see more Spons.
*turns aside*
There, I said it. Now will you please get your claws out of my<<TRANSMISSION ENDS>>

I think the polls are broken in their entirety. Probably a KeenSpace Forum problem though all the forums are acting up a bit right now. I couldn't get into past polls either.
Why not just post what you want to say, and we'll post our yays and nays as replies?

Re: hmmm
Hmm...all out of chocolate frogs. I do have these nice dried frog pills, however, and they always seem to help the Bursar. Maybe they can help Glych, too.greeneyedblackcat wrote:I vote we sent glych some chocolate frogs and an acceptance letter.

Okay, here is my "poll":
Basically, Tangents original post on what I should do with NS got me to thinking. He wants me to bring NS back as a webcomic, but what i want to do is print it.
Then I got to thinking;
I might be able to do both.
I have a script (finally), we all know this. But if I do want to publish NS, I have GOT to have better art than what's in the archives, and can't overuse expanded canvases, because THEN it won't fit into a book easily...
And I'd have to finally get a new scanner (Steve Clause said he's help out with this...don't worry
).
But *sigh* I'd also have to get rid of the NS archives.
Don't worry, they won't go away completely, but will probably be stashed in either a classis, or archive section and out of the main body of the comic archives. ( have plans with this, so I'll have to either ask bandit angel or siece to pet hack some of my coding...I think it could work if keen lets us)...
And, for those of you guys who have been here since the beginning, some of the dialogue and situations will be the same, but a lot of it will be different. I don't want you guys to get bored with it, but I also want to give you guys what you want...
so...what do you want?
Do you want me to:
A) Redo NS as a webcomic, and put the archives into a special section, accesible, but not in the continuity?
B) Keep doing NS in the private sector, and keep doing GE as I am now?
C) Start a new comic with continuity of it's own?

Some thoughts . . .
First off, great stuff glych! I enjoy your artistic endeavors immensely.glych wrote:Do you want me to:

Personally, I would like to see option B) come to fruition. The cameo-land metaphor your created in later 2002 was fun to follow and, in my humble opinion, allowed you to vent some of the frustration you were feeling at the time. And, if creating either GE or NS becomes too boring or difficult, you can focus more time on the other webcomic. But that's just my two cents on the matter.

First off, I'll admit that I'm biased in that I just updated all the old comic strips and I'd like it if they didn't vanish
Anyways, "A" appeals to me the most; I'd really like to see the plot of NS continued online. It would be nice if you left the cross-overs and anything else that gets removed from the new version available in a "Classics" section or something. As for the new stuff, if it follows the original NS plotlines you could simply slowly replace storylines until you reach the same point in the plot. Once a storyline has been replaced by a new version, I wouldn't mind seeing the classic version disappear, although it WOULD be nice to keep the whole original storyline around

Visibility of the archive is something I would regard as important. It expresses a lot of your development, both as an artist and a storyteller. Perhaps you could set it up as a discreet keenspace account which doesn't really get updated -- and then you can point to it from NS.
As to the 're-do' of NS, it seems to me that the print form will make some serious demands on you in terms of both constraints and production values.
This may be a little off the wall, but perhaps the webcomic could be the 'practice' field for the final print version. I've often found your sketches to be of interest. And I really think that relatively frequent updates help hold readership. So I'll propose you adopt a fairly regular webcomic update schedule, consisting mostly of preliminary sketches of NS, with occasional NS finals and any other non-NS material that you simply feel like doing.

Well, things keep a'changin' here in Glychville.
I just got two offers to do webcomics for two sites dedicated to video and computer game revues... One might be paying, another deffedently not...
I think if either offer gets off of the ground, that's be cool...More presteige and whatnot, but I'm not giving up NS (We will not disappear into the night! We will not go without a fight!)
But the idea of doing two webcomics clicked something off in my mind..
It will probably be something like 2-3 comics a week, B & W...But I might be able to squeeze an experiment or two in a week....
I don't know...School might kill me too....basically, the way I look at it, I have 10 months to get the majority of the story underway before heading off to "real college" and getting that there degree in art (ahyuk!)...
Thank you all for the compliments...I like the art I'm doing now too...but next semester (starting the 23rd or somesuch) I'll be taking another painting class and also *drumroll please* LIFE DRAWING CLASSES! (yay!). The last time I tried the class was cancled...greedy bastards! So let's hope it's not this time...I don't really feel like driving an hour to take it at another college.

Knowing the Keenspace system, I'm not sure that you could move the archives in to a seperate section successfully without messing up the navigation buttons a bit. Basically the "first" button would take you to the beginning of the current project - That's easily done. The problem is that the "previous" button for the first comic in the new project would still link back to the older projects.
So if the last comic of the "classics" archive was the New Years strip, then the first new comic would still have a "previous" button linking to the New Years strip.
Fixing THAT problem is beyond my understanding of the Keenspace system. I could do it in javascript but that makes the site inaccessable to some people so I don't like that.
Still, if there's a warning that hitting previous will take you to the Classics, I don't think it's that bad

A!
My vote is for option A. That is, considering you're even still taking opinions, and if you care for the opinion of an itinerant air-circulation device.
Of course, I've thoroughly enjoyed the experiment as well. So whatever you decide is fine with me

AFAIK, the only way to do that is to delete Keen's buttons entirely, and put in patch like I did before with your own buttons on each individual page. Then continue adding new patched buttons to each page of the archives as it gets made.glych wrote:Is there a way to change the look of the button for the "previous" on that page only so it says "classic"?
Could we do that?
Because this sounds exactly like what I want to do!
Other alternatives include:
1)Putting up a note on the "first" page, telling people that clicking 'Previous' will take them to the Classics.
2)creating a new folder in /d called "Classics" (or Any Convenient Name), moving the classics into said folder, and making set of links and template page to take you there. IMPORTANT: I'm still not sure exaclty how autokeen works, so it's even more important than usual to practice safe computing. Make backup copies of all your templates BEFORE doing this, just in case it does something unexpected that breaks the site. Of course, I'm sure you aren't stupid so you already have multiple redundant backups of everything anyway, but it never hurts to say it again.
