A couple of questions, though...

1. Where did Ben get the money to buy the ring if he didn't sell his gun (unless he was going to sell it just to make her feel better)?

...and B. How many broken ribs will Ben get from that "bear hug" Lily's giving him (and will he care)?

I am speculating that he was going to sell the gun to buy the ring. And after his actions in stopping the robber, the store owner paid for the ring as a reward.

And thanks Ralph. It's wonderful to read an upbeat story. About time that bear proposed, dammit.

Maybe he was selling it so he could buy the ring (already done) and still have enough cash to make it to next payday. So now he's strapped for cash for a little while. And probably feeling pretty good about it. 8)

That pounce has probably been building up since Ookami came in to the bank. At least Lily found a happy reason to use it!

Well, remember, he did just save the pawnshop from being robbed.
Pawnshops have LOTS of stuff lying around, including jewelry.
Maybe the owner (who also appears to be a friend) gave Ben the ring as a thankyou gift?

Or maybe the posse 'poited' it into existence?

Well gramps has already met the posse and I doubt that he'll start anything. Seeing as how Lily's dad seems to really like Ben as well as most of the rest of the family, I'm pretty sure that granny'll stay in line. And remember, Ben speaks Navajo so they can't 'talk behind his back in front of his face' so to speak without him knowing what they've said.

I really believe that if the grand'rents, no matter how much they disliked the idea, did ANYthing to wreck Lily's wedding, the rest of the family would totally ostracize them. The family knows how bigotted they are and I seriously doubt that they would tolerate it.
