I was kinda hoping Morty would come to the rescue.
The dark emotions are a necessary part of us, to some extent. We need grief when we lose someone we love, we need fear when we are about to do something dangerous, and I felt Morty represented that healthy side of dark emotions. The clown is something worse, a dark deceiver trying to convince Ben that he is worthless. An evil or a madness that would lead to self-destruction.
Now, with Morty bringing the light of dawning realization, I'd guess the next emotion would be ...anger? That's Gunther's thing, isn't it?
One can only hope...
It would not be right to psychoanalyze Ben or any of the posse. It involves too much second guessing Ralph's intentions.
So I'll go ahead.
Morty isn't bad. He isn't what I would describe as the 'negative' emotions as much as the self survival, pessimistic and conscience aspects of Ben.
Guilt, doubt, fear, and uncertainty are not negative. They are the mind's way of keeping us from going over a cliff like lemmings. True they are unpleasant feelings, but those are the kind that get your attention the quickest.
Now who this other fellow is I don't exactly know, but I wouldn't want any b'loons from him.
And I wouldn't want to use a flamethrower either. The place would smell funny.
Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defence.
Isn't it still possible that the evil clown is part of the "Ben and Lily in space" scenario, that is, he's one of those clowns that started the trouble with Petey, and since Ben demolished their plan, is using some kind of mind-(bleep) raygun to torture Ben in revenge?

Sure, he could be one of those clowns. Just because he represents madness and self-destruction doesn't make him superhuman. Hey, some school teachers I've met could give this clown a run for his money, competition-wse.
