Happy news

Post by Celidah the Bardess »

I just wanted to share with you all that earlier tonight one of the happiest events in my life took place.

My boyfriend asked me to be his wife.

Of course, I accepted, and I don't mind relating that the ensuing kiss was my 'first kiss', as well. The ring is absolutely gorgeous, although it's just a tich too small, so he's going to have it resized. A single diamond with sapphire "leaves" on either side, in a silver band.

I've already told the girls in my dorm, and a few guy friends who also are close to my boyfriend already knew it was happening tonight too, although I'm just evil enough that I'm going to see how long it takes for the rest of them to figure it out before I start dropping increasingly un-subtle hints. I just wanted to spread the joy.

The Lord be praised! :D

Congrats!

Not to be a downer, but please do as my wife and I did. Don not get married until you're out of school nad have a good job. It does wonders for the stability.

Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Vegas as a wedding alternative. We spent a week there (in the Excalibur, which is where we were also married), had the wedding (which included pictures, flowers, video, etc), flew 1st class both ways, and spent a grand total of $3,000. (We also won about $500 at the slots on our wedding day.)

Best wishes to you and your intended, Celidah! As an old married man, let me give you this piece of practical advice: always be and never stop being his very best friend. Keeping that attitude no matter what happens will carry you through some unimaginable rough times. May He Whom Watches All guide your life together!

This is a time for celebration, maybe I should devastate a small country as a wedding gift. :D
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Make it France. :D

Congrats to the both of you, Celidah! And I'll second Mjolnir's advice - being newlyweds in school is too distracting. Finish your education first, and get at least one of you settled in a job before setting up housekeeping. But whatever you decide, I think we all wish you every happiness.

Thanks for the advice, Kerry and Mjolnir. We've actually discussed this.

A job won't initally be much of a problem, at least for him, since he's going directly into the military as a 2nd Lieutenant. (He's in Army ROTC, and his comissioning is the day before graduation.) And we're not planning, at least right now, to marry for a couple years yet. EDIT: Forgot to mention that wedding date will also depend on when and where he's deployed, which he doesn't know yet. I pointed out to him that I've witnessed a few people who didn't wait long enough to see if they'd work out, and ended up in either an unhappy marriage or had the marriage annulled only months afterwards. And the latter was a couple who married straight out of college.

That's one of the big reasons that premarital counseling is the very next step, besides the fact it's just a good idea to work out the stuff we didn't think of.

Thanks for all your kudos and advice. It makes me very happy to read your comments.

Oh, and Solidus, second on Kerry's suggestion. ANOTHER EDIT: I told my fiance about your "gift", and he suggested Belgium, since that's where the EU is headquartered.

Congratulations!

I'll think of this day every time I eat a Belgian waffle!
