Seems obvious to me what Ralph is doing. He's trolling for controversy. Which translates to more hits, which means more readers.
Heck, if Scott Kurtz does it, and he's got such a popular comic strip, then it must be the right thing to do, eh?
Bleh.

You know the music industry is dying when actual mainstream artists start making remixes of other songs instead of original works.

You know, this does beg the question... how do you stand on using particular animal forms to help portray a character's personality? I don't have a problem with it, myself. I mean, after all, certain animals have distinct behaviors that would most likely be present in their sentient counterparts. My own bear characters are chubby, easily provoked, and in Elle's case fiercely maternal, just like real bears.
I don't think that species should completely govern how a character acts, but using it as a guideline doesn't really upset me... if anything, it makes that character more realistic, not less. Using species to help define a charicature of a given person, either real or fictional, is fine with me as well, as long as the resulting character isn't too predictable or stereotyped. If the raccoon who stole the melon had a voice like Mushmouth's from Fat Albert, then I could understand people being upset.

As I see it the cliche' character here is not the thief, but the farmer.
Farming is the very essence of capitalism, but this farmer is the comic's token liberal/socialist. His statements at finding himself robbed are opposite those he would normally make. Thus, situational humor.
I thought it was funny, anyway.

That guy irritates the heck out of me so I love it when he's shown for the fool that he is.

*probably stepped in it with that comment*

I have been wondering what a (real) furry would act like.
Some of the characteristics of the original animal would have to follow through to the hybrid.

Thanks for the reply.crazy2287 wrote:Well Nip, Tuck and Pa. Todd did all get fleas..... Dose that count?
We can’t forget that Thelma and co, being opossums have pouches. Would that count either?
That's my say, goodbuy and good-day
(i'm a poet and i didnt know it....)

Although physical attributes would have a effect on personality, I have been thinking more about the personalities and society of 'furrys'.
I read an article about how close mice genes are to our own and it started me thinking.
I would venture to guess that if the 'furry' was created by human scientist they would also try to mold the emotional characteristics to be similar to humans. But what if they couldn't?
The general public probably would never find out if an experiment like that went wrong though.
If 'furrys' came here from another dimension or planet it is difficult to tell what they're society would be like but it has given me something to chew on for awhile now.

You ever read Freefall? Florence, a genetically engineered Bowman's Wolf, is pretty much exactly what you're talking about, and her species has a very definite impact on her personality and behaviour. I could try to explain here, I suppose, but you may as well read it.

*plays with the 4th-dimensional rubik's cube* Dang! This thing is weird...
=P I have enough trouble with a regular cube, so I'm not trying this... it's like you need a chess brain, or something similar, to solve it. =\ I am so not qualified.
Then that means this thread is... O_O;; UNDEAD!!
