Well, I finally found a script I like, and I have it in test mode on the netfirms site, right now. If anyone would like to check it out, you can find it here:
http://shadowfall.netfirms.com/cgi-bin/ ... ard.cgi
This script comes from IkonBoard.com, and it works a lot like this Keen board, except that I have TOTAL CONTROL OVER IT!!! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Anyway, I've registered some of my characters names on it, already, but I still need to make some new buttons for it, as the ones it came with are really ugly. I'll probably be making some custom emoticons for it, too, at some point. Those should be pretty quick to make.
The new board uses cookies like this board, though, so if anyone has any trouble registering for it, they can just send me their info in an email, and I'll add them manually. All that's needed is a username, password, and email address, and optionally, you can add your AOL Instant Message name or ICQ number, homepage URL, interests, location and a personalized signature.
The new board also has a preview function, which I love. If anyone else wants a board that's easy to set up (this one came with its own administrative script, so it's a lot like setting up a board at a free remote site. It walks you through every step. You only have to know a few bits of Perl, mostly your host's Perl location, the paths to your scripts and images, and how to set permissions on your directories and files. It also helps if you know or have access to the hexadecimal codes for whatever colors you want to use in the board tables and headers. Most HTML books will have this info in them.
The Ikonboard.com site also has a free Perl checker script you can download, to see if your host can run the Ikonboard script. I got it and version 2.1.9 of the message board, as the newest version, 3.0, is still in beta, and they don't recommend running it as your main board. I'll probably upgrade to it, later.
Oh yeah...the best thing about this script is that it is FREE!!!!!
And did I mention FREE?!?!?
(^-^)
Kaichi
My very own forum!!! At last!!!
Lookin good. Can you link to that forum instead of this one from the keenspace site? or are you gonna change the site URL totally cos keenspace won't like you not using their forum service?

It's a pretty cool script. I just wish I really knew Perl, so I could do some extra modification to it. But, I can live with it the way it is, and I'll probably learn more Perl as I go along. I've already changed some of the ugly images it came with to some that will better match my logo and stuff. Later on, I may do some even better ones, but I don't have time, right now.
I'll be changing the links on the Kyoki Press site with Wednesday's update, providing Keen will let me update normally. They're changing a lot of stuff, and now requesting we don't run full updates. They may even make the full update queue LOW PRIORITY, later. Since my site never updates by itself, I have to run a full update every single time, and if they make it low priority, that's it. Even if I have to break my site up into pieces to put it elsewhere, I'll move the damned thing. I can't begin to tell you how refreshing it was to upload files through my Netfirms site and have them instantly show up, without having to go through the updater or the members manual update page!!
Oh, and I'm sure Keen doesn't care one way or another whether or not I use their message board system. If mine goes, that's just one less board with fairly high traffic to for them to worry about.
(~-^)
Kaichi
