Navi buttons a no show
Navi buttons a no show
For one of my webcomics, Kingdom Come I lost my navigation buttons and re-uploaded them, however, they refuse to show up. Everything is in the same place and has the same file name as my navi buttons from G'nerds, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. Maybe I just need to get the system to recognise these new guys some how. Any ideas?

Are they all gif's named last_day.gif, previous_day.gif, etc?
Are they all in your /images/ directory?
I tried http://xiii.comicgenesis.com/images/last_day.gif, but all I get is single white pixel image.
My link http://www.grubscomic.com/images/last_day.gif works for me.
Try using a different FTP client.
Maybe post a screenshot of your images directory.

workspace/images and public_html/images are the same folder. You can prove this by putting a file into public_html/images and then looking for it in workspace/images (or vice versa). Two paths to the same destination.Dr Neo Lao wrote:You are putting the navi buttons into the workspace/images folder, right?
If you put them straight into the public_html/images folder they don't work. They may have been lost during the server transfer (unlikely, but possible) and you just need to re-upload them.

That may be true, but for the ***prevous_day*** etc images, they need to be in the workspace/images folder. If you put them directly in the public_html/images folder they don't show up - or at least they didn't on my first comic or in the case of two people that I helped set up their accounts.
And they're not the same folders: one is /images the other is /workspace/images - it's just that files get copied from one to another at specific times...

I've helped people start up comics too and have always copied the files into public_html/images. It's never been a problem.
You're right that they should copy the files into workspace/images - that's how all the tutorials and faqs read. I don't mean to suggest otherwise there - I think you're advice is generally spot on Doc.
But you're wrong in thinking they're anything but two seperate ways to get to the same folder - front door and back door to the same home, so to speak.
And it actually is public_html/images - it's just that the root of your directory is public_html. So you don't reference it as public_html/images, but instead as /images or ./images
There's no copying going on; there aren't two sets of files - in fact it's a major known issue that crops up whenever someone comes in and says, "I deleted this extra copy of my images folder, and suddenly I don't have either copy!" It's called a dynamic link (I think), and is a common and useful feature in UNIX; Kisai's mentioned it before.
I have to suspect that the problem you had, and the problem the couple other people had that you helped, was related to the upload of their file, and fixed by uploading the file again... regardless of if they put it into workspace/images or public_html/images.

As you have been here longer than I have, I have to assume that you know more than I do.
After all, just because it seems to be a certain way, does not mean that it is.
Edit: I just tested it and of course, you are right. The two image folders are essentially the same folder.
I learnt something today!
