The server is in, unfortunately named Cecilia. Kisai and I will start setting up and transferring comics over to it starting late today (6pm EST at the earliest), so Butch may be slower than normal.

The forums should not be affected, save for us backing up the database to it, but even then it shouldn't take a hit.

The goal is to have it all done by next weekend, so we can hit the switch in DNS and give Butch a proper send-off.

This also means that comics may be off by a week... and that my webcomic (Stalag '99) may be on hiatus until after Anthrocon.

More details as we get things moving.

Well looks like the sites are down again...but since they're down because you're doing something to hopefully keep them from going down so often in the future I'll refrain from bitching.

Well, that's great that we have a new server.
Of course it has to be one of the 2 days that our comic updates and my favorite comic updates
But hey, it's not like the chunnel caught on fire, so all's well that ends well.

Can't seem to log in to FTP - I assume that's because of the shift. Should I be logging in to a specific new server name now, or should I just wait?

Just wait. As soon as the database is up and we get things tweaked right, we'll get the DNS switched over. We are very close -- Kisai's been setting up the backend systems.

You do not have to FTP to a different domain. Everything will be {comic-username}.comicgenesis.com as usual. If you're using a third party domain pointing to us, it'll be moved over too.

If you're using ftp.comicgenesis.com to upload, then go sit in a corner with a dunce hat on!

I've asked Nate to switch the DNS over.

To be clear, we generate the DNS data that Nate syncs over on a regular basis. This was being done on Butch. It is now being done on Cecilia.

So ... does this mean the new server is raring to go and is all set up, or that the new server is moving from alpha to beta release and everyone is now crossing their fingers that all the i's were dotted and the t's crossed?

I just wanted to thank all of the admins for their diligence and efforts in eliminating the problem with the servers! I realize that you are not paid and that you are contributing because of your love of the comicgenesis community and dedication to all the aspiring webcomic authors out there. It has not gone without notice---especially from me!

Actually, I think *I* jinxed it.

The first time I updated my comic was the first time it all crashed! Pretty sure since then it's crashed after every time I update... so I tell my co-workers to check it, then it doesn't work.

Eh, that's what I get for picking Mondays.
