Why didn't mine update?

Post by Deckard Canine »

It doesn't look like I did anything different from usual, but "20070524.png" remains in my workspace folder and not on the webpage. I submitted the image on the 21st. Has there been a hiccup in the auto-update?

The updater's being... wonky at the moment. My update from wednesday still isn't up.

Yeah, same here. This happens occasionally, just wait it out.

I took it as an opportunity to beef up my notes post for Wednesday and add an explanation as to why the comic is late(r).

Us people who update every day are being kicked in the balls repeatedly by this. :(

I've had to explain myself on this to readers repeatedly. Very.... uh.... something.

Well, I'm somewhat to relieved to know it isn't my fault and there's nothing I can do about it except explain. Thanks.

I understand the server or something is being updated, so it'll be buggy for a while. I'm guessing that's why we were told to make backups of everything.

Can you not just force an update by simply just uploading to the public folder? Or am i being stupid..?

Doesn't work that way. The ***tags*** won't register if you upload directly.

Yeah. I finally got fed up with it and set up a backup site over at Webcomicsnation.com.

It also helps if you have some species of tagboard set up; even if the CG updater doesn't work, the tagboard will still function, and at least you can tell people that you haven't died or otherwise slacked off.

Now I wish I'd caved to peer pressure and added a tagboard to my site...

I'm not sure what I'm more annoyed by, the fact that my update didn't go through when I was actually GOOD and did it a whole two days ahead of time, or that the site's actually entered and exited the queue every night since then, but nothing has happened, or that these problems seem to come up every time I do a major promotion push for myself, and are probably driving off the people I attracted to the site. :(

I have a twitter box on my site as well as a tagboard. I update the twitter and tell folks what's going on with the comic, as well as the tagboard because my post in the tagboard can get lost if the board is active that day. (The twitter is the section of my comic marked "Comic Status".. click the "Comic Status" title and you can see the full list of my "tweets"... comic linked in my sig. What's nice is that I can update the twitter from the twitter.com or my cell phone.)

I am also a daily updater. My update time is midnight my time (USA Central), but when I get up in the AM, I find that my comic isn't updated and there are 1900+ in queue. I just hit the "regular update" link in my control center and my comic is updated instantly. I am not sure if its because it's just my comic's time in the queue or if I am actually doing something that this works, but today was the 2nd or 3rd day that I have done it.

If those of you with comics in your workspace/comics directory that are past their update time would try "regular update" and let us know if that works, it may be a temporary workaround.

I attempted a manual update, and not only did it work but it updated almost immediately -- skipping past the 2200+ comics that were supposed to be in the queue.

Unless the admins tell us differently (or anything at all), I will be doing manual updates only from now on.
