Kelly, you rock!
I was wondering why my update wasn't working. I didn't know I was communicating with the wrong server.
I just used the start - run on my windows. I browsed for the ftp connection to my comic's workspace and it updated to the correct server. I saved it and now I'm in business.
One question; the Keenspace member page is still on the old server. How do I connect it to the new server?
Learning on the fly:
------------------

Mac users should pull MacPing (if I remember correctly, been some time since I used a Mac).
Ok. It looks like updates are disabled while we move members.keenspace over. I'm only guessing here, since Nate's controlling the transfer. So hang in there. I have no ETA on when it'll be finished -- but thankfully I've found the file that controls ***keenspace_alert***. If you haven't done it already, put that tag in, because since I have access to it, I'm going to use it!
If you're on the new server, and FTP doesn't work, give it a while to sink in. And if you're still hitting the old server, the easiest thing you can do is just wait. *smirk* We've switched DNS over on our end, but almost all ISP's DNS servers have a bit of short-term memory and thus you'll have to wait for them to forget.
Once last thing: I know all of you are not on the KeenSpace-Admin Yahoo! Group. We're trying to get the Pope to make it a cardnal sin for not being on there, but my Latin's a bit rusty. It's better to be in the know (I like clued in folks, I just had to thwack some into a griffon over at MidCentral here...) so subscribe to it.

Ok, folks, I think we're mostly there. There's a few side effects, but still, read on. Read this whole message before you do anything.
I need everyone to check to see if their ISP's DNS server knows about the change. Here's how you do it:
1. Check to see if you have the 'nslookup', 'host', 'traceroute', or 'ping' utilities. If you have 'nslookup' or 'host', you're half-way there. If you have 'traceroute' or 'ping', well, we'll deal with that. (Hint: Pull Sam Spade for Windows at http://www.samspade.org for some graphical versions of these utilties!)
2. Use it on the command prompt or shell like this:
nslookup stalag99.keenspace.com
(Use your domain instead of mine). If it points to 64.71.165.151, you're on the new server and your ISP is fine. If not (it's to .130), your ISP still belives you're on the old server, and you'll have to wait to have it age off.
3. If you're on .151, FTP to your domain and check to see if comics you've recently uploaded are still there. You may want to just upload 'em again just to make sure (this won't harm AutoKeen). DO NOT TRIGGER AN UPDATE! members.keenspace.com, where the trigger is, is still on .130, so you'll have to let it autoupdate.
Now today I'm going to work on those forums...
------------------

a way around some ofhte problems or at least to have a new page up for todays_comic, wht you can do (id you knowhwat you are doing) is upload a new comic into the comic directory of your public_html and also manually update hte index.html page that is there to justhave a different date for todays_comic. i did that and at least have hte new installment up... the calendar still doesn't update of course...
------------------

So far so good, I got .151 also. Every comic of mine except for today's is updated... I have my clock set to Far East time, so it's normally ahead a day, now it's behind ... whatever, in other words, everything but the most recent one is updated even the rest in the last batch uploaded.
Well, I don't see that it should take much longer to fix. Good work so far, staff.
------------------

Argh, I hate not knowing a thing about stuff like this.
Okay, I downloaded Sam Spade, and it says I'm still on the old server (.130), but out of curriosity, I checked several of the sites on this post that said they were on the old server too (including yours, Kelly). Am I not looking at the right thing? Are those not the IP adresses at the bottom of the list?
By the way, how long does one have to wait until it "ages off"? And what exactly does that mean?
------------------

OK...you're going to have to dumb it down a bit for those of us who aren't so technically inclined.
I've been using the built-in FTP function of Internet Explorer, which has been working OK until now. Where can I get the prompts for steps 1 and 2?

I've uploaded an image on how to ping, and will be updating the Gear news as often as possible with the admin news, and reports from the field.
------------------

OK, I'm a little clearer now, but I haven't solved the problem. I did a ping, and that indicated that I AM on the .151 server.
However, my comic still isn't updating, and this is a comic I uploaded last WEEK. I did trigger an update a few days ago, before I learned what the problem was.
I have no problem accessing ftp.keenspace.com; everything's seemingly fine, except there's no updating going on. Is this simply a case of me waiting for you guys to finish up on your end?

Think of it as moving house, and your ftp space as your room. If your stuff's been moved over to the new place you should be able to get to it via username.keenspace.com. Once thev'e moved the "big stuff" of the membership/logs/updater/ system over you can start using that too.
ftp.keenspace.com points to your old room (so to speak); everthings been copied over, the removal men have labeled it done, and everything you put there now will be ignored.
If you ping your site and see the number ending in .151, you're at the new place.
------------------

Folks, if you point your browsers to http://www.keenspace.com/~gear (using a back door, won't be up for long), you'll see Seven3's site. I'll try to update that too. www is on the old server.

------------------
