I've been wondering if I should do that, but I've been afraid that it'll take a week or two to get back to me (general paranoia because of the time it's taken so far).

Also, it seems to want the Comicgenesis FTP username and password... Isn't that what I got back in the e-mail? Or is there something else I need to sign up for? ^^;;

EDIT: Okay, changing the password seems to have worked so far. Thanks for the help!

Not at all, Linkara! Glad I was able to help!

And no, the new siteadmin doesn't use your FTP username and password, but rather your Forum account. So your username would be Linkara, and your password ... well, that's for only you to know.

Take care! And if you need anything else, just ask.

Sign-up's... Not.. doing anything. At all.

Post by Shilon »

When I try to sign up, I fill everything out, then click Verify... It just.. refreshes. with nothin' there.

THEN, when I check its status... Nothin' there.
I've made a comic here before, but that was about 2 years ago, and it's already been deleted. [So, just changing that comic's info is out of the question.]

Is there something I'M doing wrong, or is there some... bug?

Are you using the same e-mail address as the last time? I don't think we're allowed multiple accounts and even if there has been a span of two years, it may still remember the old e-mail.

Which browser are you using? If it's IE try closing all IE windows, opening a new one and going straight to the sign-up page. If that doesn't work, I think it's a deal with the cookies, but I can't quite remember.

Erm, I dont seem to be able to get my FTP to join up to the comicgeness site.

I have xp and smart FTP client, could that be the source of the problem?

I REALLY need to update. D:

Please help!

Are you remembering that your site may be inoperational for a few days after you get your password?

What sort of error message are you getting?

If all you wnt to do is upload comics, you can use siteadmin's"upload/update comic" option in the mean time, or you might even get Philexto work for you.

Well, I have had this comic for quite a while now, and its not given me this trouble before.
the message that I get is this:
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

I also wanted to add some things to my page.

but thanks for the comic reminder

<Insert awkward newb salutation here>,

I'd imagine every question I need to ask has already been answered a few times over, but I don't know that I could read the entire 45 pages of this thread and not devolve into some sort of Lovcraftian beast.

As evidenced by my posting here, I've managed to join the forums without trouble. However, I've gone through the sumbission process for an actual webcomic and have yet to recieve a confirmational email or password. Is there a regular period where those are sent out, or should I be concerned that I input an invalid email address to the sumbission form?

Also, assuming I'm granted webspace, what software do I use to put my html files (I have a site with several html, image, css and js files all set to go), to the web? I'm curretnly using something called SSH Secure Shell Client, a basic FTP from my college, but I'm not sure it will work with Comic Genesis. If it does, so much the better. I just thought I'd ask.

To whomever answers this, thanks and I'm sorry if I just asked an FAQ.

There is a seven day waiting period upon the initial registration of the webcomic and a subsequent 2-5 day waiting period for the actual site to come up. You insert files using an FTP program, as described under the Ensign's Manual section of http://gear.comicgenesis.com .

There will be a default dailytemplate section and an indextemplate which are alterable or changeable at your whim, probably made all the better if you have HTML coding already prepared.

Sweet.

My inbox had the account confirmation code in it, which I promptly input, but then I couldn't login with what I thought was my username. Funny thing, it prompted me for a password but I don't remember having made a password.

I submitted a change in password though, so with any luck it will work as of 2 am tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the help.

Nope, I use Firefox. Yes, it's the latest version.
I'll try clearing my cookies and signing up.

Edit: Nope, didn't work.

Are you behind a router? If so, you can go ahead and disable any software firewall you might be running that could be causing your headache. (at least temporarily. If your software isn't capable of running as an outgoing firewall, it can be permenantly disabled in that case. A router's firewall is secure enough for most purposes.)

Shilon, try it on a different computer, to see if it's your firewall or cookies, or something. I really don't know what's going on, so this is probably a matter of process of elimination.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Uh...

SMASHY WIff HAMMER!!!

Honestly? I have no idea. Try to go to a library and upload your stoof from there to see if it's your connection or your comic (using the WebFTP from http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080 )

I tracked down the Cox website, but I couldn't figure out how to check against gmail or anything. Is there a certain part of the wiki or cadet packet that explains this process?
