Man Down!
Um, for some reason, I can't edit my news page on the FTP thing. When I load it up for editing, it says the file isnt a text file and i will have to edit it some other way.
its never said this before, and it doesnt do this to any of my other pages, which were made in the exact same way.
so what happened?
P.S.: My banner isnt showing up in my profile. not a big problem, but did i do something wrong? or do i need to wait like i did for it to go up in the Guide?

ok well, i opened my FTP thing, went to the webpages folder, went to my weboage called "news" checked it, clicked edit, and when the editing window came up, a warning thing popped up that said "the file you are trying to edit is not a text file. You will have to find another way to edit it."
it thened closed the editing window.
I have edited my news page by these methods before and never had this particular problem. i even went and did the same procedure to see if i could edit my other pages, and i could. so why is my news page the only thing freaking out?
heres the address, if its needed:

Ok, this has driven me nuts. I have downloaded the file. i have re-written all the coding from scratch. pretty much the entire page. i even put it in a new txt file and saved it completely independently, and it STILL gives me that message. i even made another small website, and it took it.
I've drawn the conclusion that it must be something in the code, but i dont know what. Could I post the code here, for people to see what's wrong with it?

I'm not sure I totally understand what's happening.
My advice, however, would be to look into an actual FTP client (I use WS_FTP Le and it does the trick). Make your .html file, and then upload it.
From what you've said, it sounds like you're trying to edit an html file that's already uploaded. Again, if I've misunderstood, I apologize.
But, try an actual FTP client and see if that solves the problem.

In fact, we were kind of waiting for you to.
Just make sure you enclose them in [ code ] tags.

Wait. So the problem is you cannot upload the file to workspace/webpages? Or am I confused?
Try this: delete the old news.html, and then upload the file again.

I didn't think it was possible to edit an HTML file that is already uploaded.Mr. Genocide wrote:no, i can upload it, i just cant edit it once its in there. i can edit it offline and reload a new one, but that is pointless and time-consuming. this isnt a life-threatening problem, but i would like ot fix it out of convenience, and because i can't figure out why it does this in the first place.
Typically, you make your changes on the file on your machine, then upload it.

i can with the keenspace BUTCH ftp thing. i like it because its faster than going through 3 steps just to make a single update to single page, especially, if its a minor one.
its nice for the templates also. lucky me, i can still edit those. i just cant edit the freakin news page! but yes, after making a new file with a different name, then copying the code into it, i found out it still does the same thing. so something in its coding is screwing it up.

well, from what i am gathering, you cant do that with any other client. i suppose i can just make a new news pages without that stuff. or just do the 3 step uploading thing. whatever, i'll figure it out. thankd for all the the help.
I'll still check this for a couple more days though, in case anyone figures it out.
