Newb questions.

Post by Sidewalk Warrior »

Hey, I'm planning to sign up for a new comic in the next couple weeks. I just had a few questions to begin.

Is it possible to change the name of your comic after creation? Alternatively, is it possible to run two strips from the same site? And if not, can you create multiple accounts? I haven't seen any of these in the FAQs so I figured this would be the place to go.

Are things like genre and the mature rating determined solely on the Wiki? Are there any specific criteria for which thing goes where? I mean, should I get second and third opinions about my content?

Thanks in advance.

You can change the title if you want, but not the username--that's the part that appears before .comicgenesis.com

You can run multiple comics on one site but it takes more coding knowledge and unless you put them all together, you can't use the automatic updated for two separate things. It's easier in that case to get a second account.

The wiki is user-added so the genre list there isn't complete. The genre and mature rating are based on how you feel the content is and is loosely based on motion picture ratings anyway. The main thing to keep in mind about setting your maturity rating is it affects which sites your newsbox is displayed on, and we don't want a mature comic advertising on an all-ages one.

That's great. Thanks again. BTW am I right to reply with the quote button at the top? Is there another way to respond to a specific post in the wider thread? I've noticed some of these can get a bit long.

I've never been convinced that works though. I'd get mature comics showing up on Tile's newsbox all the time. Or did those people just never fill out their rating thing?

Yes, though usually you type your response below the quote, not above it. And if the post you're quoting is long, and you only want to reply to part of it, you can delete all but the pertinent lines. In some cases people will break it up and respond in parts.

I have a noob question. I just got my welcome email today and went onto my site. First off, the comic I submitted wasn't there, it wasn't anywhere when I went into FTP and looked through the public and workspace folders. So I uploaded it for today and a bunch of other comics for the rest of October. The tutorial in the wiki said that the update should be done, but there still wasn't anything on my site. Thinking that whatever is supposed to happen (updates from my workspace folder magically goes into public and ends up on my website) happens once a day, I went back into my comics folder in workspace and removed today's update (the one that was supposed to be the first), renamed it for tomorrow (20091016.jpg) and uploaded it. Can I expect anything at all to be there tomorrow? Or am I just doing something wrong?
EDIT:
Forgot to put down my site's URL

Rating thing? There's a rating thing? I don't remember a rating thing when I applied. Is there anything I can do about setting a rating now? Forsaken Stars should be Web 14. Partial nudity and violence from time to time. I've got text on the main page of the site stating so, but is there coding I need to insert somewhere?

Thanks.

It's in the SiteAdmin, which... doesn't work currently for new accounts.

But yeah, I don't think the newsbox rating system thing works very well. Because Tile is definitely rated G, and I looked up Insane Undertakings in the Guide, which will show up in the newsbox sometimes, and it's definitely rated MA.
