Ooh - lapsed domains are always a problem.

There are two factors at play here - the domain registrar (where you bought the domain) and CG. Lamentably, due to lots of problems with the system, CG is no longer parking domains. This means that there is a good chance that you will not be able to set things up the way that you had them before.

With the domain, step one is to try and get it back. There is a 95% chance that immediately after your domain lapsed, someone else bought it. There are entire companies whose sole job it is to do just that. Since domains are given on a "first come, first served" basis, you no longer have any claim on the domain. The only ways to get it back are to either apply through the registrar (there is a small window of about 15 days where you can do this), or, if it has been more then 15 days then the only way to get the same domain back is to buy it from the company that picked it up. These companies tend to charge a fair bit, so most people simply register a new, slightly different domain.

My suggestion would be to just use the CG url and not worry about a domain. Odds are that if someone goes looking for your comic, they will find it anyway.

If you specifically wanted to have a stand-alone domain so that people didn't realise you were on CG, then the simplest way will probably be to register a new domain (along with some hosting) and set up your comic independently.
