Comic not updating on time
Hello. I've been having a problem with updates the last week. I normally update Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but it just wont happen. I can't pinpoint the exact time each one decides to do so but I can say it's almost a day late each time (probably about 19 hours). I searched the forums and found a suggestion stating delete it and rename it to an earlier date... didn't work. Or, change the auto update time to the "new server" time, since I have no idea what that might be I changed it to an earlier time... nothing. So, I have is a comic that wont update when I tell it to and some readers deciding to point out how I'm never on time.
Any other suggestions that might help?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Comic not updating on time
Just for the record, I've been having the same problem this week. Neither automatic nor manual updates seem to be working; the comic updates nearly a full day after its usual update time, no matter how often I try to force it to appear. It seems almost as if CG's internal clock is set one day later than it should be. Perhaps it's just a server hiccup that will be sorted out before long. Such things have happened before (don't ask about the several months a year or so ago in which updating at all was nearly impossible unless one had magical powers of some sort).

Re: Comic not updating on time
Okay then, I've been noticing a few people posting something like this over the weekend and this now makes it an official problem.
I'll let Kisai and STrRedWolf know (if they don't already). It might be something that is beyond their control (maybe the time on the server changed for some reason?) or it might be a simple fix.
In the meantime, I would suggest putting a small notice either on your indextemplate or in your blog/news if you have off-site information imported to the comic so that your readers know about the problem.

Thanks Doc. Is there some sort of newsletter for the CG authors I can subscribe to? I don't like these little surprises and it would be nice to know that the admins and techs know what's going on before I know, ya know? I don't come to the boards very often. It would just be nice to be alerted in advance via eMail.

Re: Comic not updating on time
There is an undocumented KeenTag, I think it's ***alert*** or something that one can put on the template(s) and it pops up with an "emergency broadcast system" type of message when something system-wide needs to be put out.
As far as I am aware, it is never (or very rarely) used.
The "defacto" warning system is here, at the Help Centre.Usually what'll happen is that a group of different people will make a couple of different threads, all with very different titles and it is only when someone reads all the threads that they might cotton on that something is gone wrong. Then the admins are notified and they fix it.
When things go wrong (except during planned outages, like maintenance or upgrades) the admins are the last to know...
In order to overcome that, I've created a page on the CGWiki where I'll be posting about problems as I become aware of them. The page is currently listed as "New Users" but I might re-name it to be more clear.

Re: Comic not updating on time
I'm having the same problem with http://deathbychibi.comicgenesis.com/. I have the comic uploaded, but it just won't update. Everything else in the queue goes through, but mine stays jammed in there.
Re: Comic not updating on time
My site is bluebookofdoom.comicgenesis.com, I was able to get my new skin online for it's first upgrade phase (Im working on getting a bios and credits section later) but apparently the new skin got it's coding changed even though I used notepad which shouldnt have done that. I tried to add a corrected html index and daily template, but it seems to not be updating again in order fix the current botched coding. Plus my sample comic page seems to have dissapeared from the ftp site, and right now even after uploading two more comics Im only getting the previous day keentags to show up as a broken code on the page.

Re: Comic not updating on time
Well, I emailed STrRedWolf, but she hasn't replied yet. I'm sure other people have let her know already, anyway.
The weird thing is, everything else is updating with no problem at all. It seriously is just the comic that's not going through. :\
Thanks for helping us out though. I'm glad to hear that at least now it's considered an official problem.

I'm assuming that updates are still running late, since my won't update when I try to update it.

I'm not sure if this has been fixed yet, but it seems to have been working well in the last couple of days. Several of my updates have gone through without a hitch! Thanks!

Re: Comic not updating on time
Mine did something weird.
I know the update went though OK cos the blogger post landed on the site fine.
but the comic graphic DIDNT!
Yes its named correctly and dated correctly
is this a problem with the daylight savings thing? or is it something about autogenesis? I know I put my name up for it

Same thing with mine. Everything appeared except for the actual comic.
I'm hoping this gets straightened out soon; I know it did happen before.

Re: Comic not updating on time
Oh hey! I waited overnight and tried "full update" again, and now it works! Hooray!
Re: Comic not updating on time
I just now updated my comic, and it updated instantly. But I've ran into a past problem again, with Archive pages not working.
Re: Comic not updating on time
Does comicgenesis only allow you to update your comic once a day? Because I tried to update after fixing my dailytemplate, and it's delaying. So either the problem is kinda random, on and off, or just still as persistent and I got lucky last time.
Re: Comic not updating on time
I appear to be having the same problem, I ran my ususal update late Sat Mar 7th and it still hasn't updated three days later.
I checked my FTP and the comic I uploaded has been moved to public directory but no HTML pages have been generated. My archive pages appear to be working fine and my RSS feed says it was last updated on Mar 1st.

Re: Comic not updating on time
From anecdotal evidence here in the forum, it would appear that this is currently the case. However, it is not supposed to be that way.Does comicgenesis only allow you to update your comic once a day?

Re: Comic not updating on time
Common mistakes:
Not "refreshing" your comic. If you do a manual update, you should force a refresh in your web browser, or you will be pounding your head against the desk thinking it hasn't updated.
Check the rss.xml file, that will tell you when autokeen last updated. If you are in the FTP, look at the date and time of the index.html file. If it's changing after you do an update, it's updated.
The only thing that changed was Daylight savings time, so that means if you checked your comic or uploaded it when the time flipped over, that update was missed. Remember when in daylight savings time, Pacific time is GMT -7, not -8. The CG server is in UTC(GMT), but the autokeen settings are based on offset from PST. It's setup this way because originally the keenspot server that autokeen was forked from was running in PST. PST in the system is 0 from PST (which is -7 from UTC when in daylight savings time, or -8 when it isn't)
Anyway, daylight savings time is annoying and nobody complained last year, which means that nothing has been changed. Autokeen is operating exactly as before, however....
Only Autokeen works this way, if you don't know if you are using autokeen, ask StrRedWolf.

Re: Comic not updating on time
Well, the only problem with the daylight savings thing is that it stopped working before daylight savings. Mine stopped working on February 20th. Should I just change the update time to GMT?
Thanks for your feedback.
