Wiki doesn't like me [solved - read first post]
Re: Wiki doesn't like me
Well, I came up with a workaround for the moment.
I copied the page to http://xwhy.pbwiki.com and made my updates.
When everything's working again, I'll copy it all back.
Better than nothing, I guess.

Re: Wiki doesn't like me
Update: We officially have no idea why some people can get in and others cannot.
Things to try:
If you can't log in and want to help, please post some details about your system and if / when the last time you were able to successfully log in or if you're a new user who has never logged in.
Things to try:
- Clear the cookies / cache.
- Try logging in from a different computer.
- Check firewall / antivirus settings.
- Try logging in with someone else's account from your own computer.
- Make an offering to Cthulhu.
If you can't log in and want to help, please post some details about your system and if / when the last time you were able to successfully log in or if you're a new user who has never logged in.

Re: Wiki doesn't like me
I have not ever been able to log into Wiki.
Don't know if this is relevant or not but at the time i joined there was the problem with the forum not letting me log in and by watching the forum talk i saw that changes were coming so i just waited it out and was eventually able to create my forum account.
as i say it may not have anything to do with it but it may be something to consider.
thanks.

Re: Wiki doesn't like me
when I log in on my forum account "phact0rri" it says no user
when I log on with my old user name it says "invalid password" and yes I retried my password a few times.
I need to get in to update some stuff pretty badly, for dropdowns. but I haven't been able to log in for a while.

Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
well there's a good size of stuff on my side. I need to clear out a bunch of dropdowns, load up some new images, rework one of the tutorials, and add a new one. So there's a few pages and a bit of work involved for me.Dr Neo Lao wrote:New news on the first page. Instructions on how to get an update on your page (for those who can't get access).

Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
just thoughts on the issue.
I've tried two different networks, and three different machines to log in and I get the same error.
Does the username database come straight from the same database as these forums? as I still can't help to think that its kinda weird how my new forum username "phact0rri" isn't recognized at all. and my old one is recognized but I get that bad password error.
I don't pretend to know how it works, but it just seems that... if it went from the same database as the forums that it would at least recognize my current username.

Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
The Wiki and Siteadmin run off the same database as the forum. However, the problem seems to be random, not system wide. It's only a few users who are having trouble getting into the Wiki. Kisai hasn't been able to replicate the problem, so there is no way to work out a solution without knowing the problem.
The fact that it's a few isolated users and not everybody is what makes it seem that the problem lies outside Comic Genesis.

I'm also having trouble logging into the Wiki (since the beginning of march)

Just stopping by to say that I can't login to the cgwiki because it reports me as having the wrong password whenever I try to sign in. I have no problems with anything else related to comic genesis.
Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
I continue to have problems as well. I've tried on my personal machine, which operates windows 2000, using both firefox and IE. Assuming it was a problem with having an obolete computer I went to the student center and used one of the public computers...all of which run windows XP and have Internet Explorer.
No luck anywhere. I keep getting a bad password message, despite changing my password here.
Problem has been consistant since I posted in the CGWiki help thread...

I also keep getting the wrong password error; I've been able to log in plenty of times in the past, but currently nothing's doing it (logging in here, logging in and accessing via siteadmin, etc).

Can we have the "Email me a new password" option turned on? In my case CGWiki says wrong password, which is quite a surprise. If we had the option (present in the engine, most wikis have it turned on) it'd solve quite a percentage of the cases, I believe.

Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
The Wiki's "new password" feature is turned off because the Wiki isn't using its own password database - it's reading the forum password.
If that where turned on then people would need to keep track of different passwords for different sections of the site.
For those that can't log into the Wiki, make sure that you are logging into the forum correctly (capitalization) then try and log into the Wiki.
I'm tempted to say that the wiki isn't reading the password database properly, but then that would affect everyone, not just a few random people...

Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
No offense, but if that worked, I wouldn't have ever posted in this thread. I've tried every capitalization combination I can think of, every sequence of logins I can come up with, absolutely everything I can do on my end and I still cannot edit my Wiki.
Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
Same here, moonshadow. Anyone working on this? I'm not in any rush. Just wondering.

No offense taken. We know how it's supposed to work and for the majority, it is.moonshadow wrote:No offense, but if that worked, I wouldn't have ever posted in this thread.
What we are unable to determine is why a handful of people are unable to log in.
Unfortunately, no.wp wrote:Anyone working on this?
So far, none of the admins or staff are able to replicate the problem on our machines. Everyone else can get in and use the CGWiki without any drama. Without knowing what the problem is or what is causing it, there's no work that can be done. Like I said in my previous post - it's only affecting a few random people. The baffling part is that if they create new accounts, it still won't let them in. There's about three and a half thousand people that can get in and around a dozen or so who can't.
At the moment we're still collecting data trying to see if there is any common denominator between the people who can't get in, but it's rather random.
Sorry.
Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
When you say "none of the admins or staff are able to replicate the problem on our machines," does that mean they are trying our names and passwords and it works for them?

Re: Wiki doesn't like me [News on first post]
Not that I'm aware of. As far as I know, the admins don't have access to users' passwords and so can't check their accounts.
However, I've had people send me their details and I've logged in with their information which is why we believe that the problem is on the users' end and not on the server end - though I can't for the life of me think why. And if it was their box, then they ought to be able to log in from another computer - but they can't, so that says the problem is on their account and not their box. Conflicting evidence all around.
So far, it has been quite frustrating. Oh, and in case you weren't already aware, there are only two admins for Comic Genesis and they both have day jobs (running the site is only a part-time function). CG doesn't have a team of technicians that can deeply analyze problems as they come up. Which is what makes small problems such as this one (that only affect a small fraction of the community) such a pain to fix...
