Having trouble with site admin

Post by Zanzarra »

Another "abandoned my comic for almost a year"-sinner here, even more, I didn't really upload anything back then... meh, long story and unimportant here.

So, my problem is:

Although I can log in at the forum, and upload comics and pages onto my site, I can't log in at the siteadmin tool.
If nothing changed drastically witihn this last year, I'll need to log in though, for triggering a full update, otherwise my site changes will not happen, right? That means, any other changes than regular updates.

I did read around in this forum before posting this, I found similar posts like mine, also the thread often linked in these... but nothing posted there, or the linked thread, helped me in any way.

I'll try to describe exactly what happens:

- I click "Log in" on the cgenesis main page
- A window pops up, asking for my forum username and password
- I enter these
- I end up on a page saying my forum username is not valid, wich is kinda strange, given the fact that I'm actually just posting with it...
On the bottom of the page is a link for logging out and trying again, I do hit "cancel", to get on a even smaller page with a single login link - at this point the whole thing sort of starts over again.

Okay, your problem *might* be a bit easier to solve.

Normally, for those who have capitals in their name they just need to log out of the forums and log back into the forums using the right capitalization. The forum will let you log in with zanzarra but siteadmin won't.

However, what most people don't realize is the siteadmin and the forums use the same name / password database (as does the CGWiki) so when you log into the forum, it creates a bit of code that is used to verify you when you log into siteadmin.
  1. Log out of everything (siteadmin and forums).
  2. Log into the forum using your properly capitalized name and password.
  3. Then try logging into the siteadmin (with proper caps).
If that does not work, then it might be a different problem. There have been two or three "not been around for a while" accounts that used to be on keenspace that seem to have had trouble during the big server move.

(The CG server was replaced during your absence). The only thing I can think of is that old accounts need to have something done to them when moved from keen to Gen and it hasn't happened for x,y,z reason.

It's possible that there was a new field added to the mysql password database and older accounts have that new field as blank when there should be a 1 or a 0 or something...

Ooh! That seems a very reasonable explanation; as far as I have seen, all of the "non-caps people" with problems so far have been old members from the keenspace days, including myself.

I wasn't from the old days, but I had a question that popped up at the password thing, does that if we change our passwords it might work?

I logged in without capitalizing the first letter of my nickname now, with the same results... but thanks for trying to help me.

Any other ideas? *sigh*

Ooh...

There has to be SOME kind of update schedule still in action, as it seems, since the changes I made to the site took action...
I thought I disabled update schedule, or that I have to trigger a full site update at least for the "extras" page to update...

Fine, I can live with that. Some day it'll be good to log in to siteadmin again, but hey, I AM able to update my comic, that's all I asked for, by now.

@ spirenteh: It's always worth a try, but it didn't work for kaourika.

@ Zanzarra: Um, you shouldn't be trying to log in with a lowercase Z. But at least you were able to get in.

@ kaourika: It's the only thing I can think of that is common between the cases seen so far.

Oh, I still can't log in to siteadmin, I just can get onto the forum with both capitalized and lower-case first letter.

I just meant to say that the site updated on it's own, also the additional pages, although I thought I'd need to trigger a full update for that.

The last thing to try is the Quickadmin:

http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/quickadmin/

Some comics had trouble after using it, but it may be worth a try...
