Impossibly frustrated [solved]

Post by Bohemian »

Hello, I'm new here, and I've been trying DESPERATELY to get my comic up and running, however things have NOT WORKED and it's driving me berserk.

I have attempted to join this web host twice now (once before switching to smackjeeves, and now, once i realized how terrible smackjeeves was), and neither time has worked.

My problem is that the forum name that my web domain for my comic got registered to (I did finally get a domain for my comic)... well the forum account it's connected to won't let me log back into it. Unable to log in, i am unable to edit my comic, making it completely useless.

I have tried every permutation of my password to log in, and it outright refuses to send the password to my email. I also sent an email to an admin, but that never came back, and it's been a good 4 days.

So now I'm logging in on my THIRD forum account, wanting to know what to do, and if I'm doing something wrong. The domain name I want is already taken by the other account, but I can't LOG IN, or edit it. If I make a new domain, I'd have to change the name of the URL, as well as wait for my comic to get approved for the THIRD time.

Any advice? If you need something clarified, please tell me, as this has been a long, confusing, frustrating experience.

Thank you for your time.

I'm sorry that you have found it so hard to get started.

With the successful application, if you got the email with your ftp passwords and such, then you can get away without accessing the siteadmin - just use an ftp program and your ftp username / password to access the comic account directly.

With the forum account, if it won't give you your password and it won't email a reminder to you, you could link the succesful comic account to your current forum account. Just log into the siteadmin using this account (Bohemian) and add your comic to it. If you didn't do that with the first forum account, then there shouldn't be a drama. Again, you will need your comic's ftp name and password.

What is the comic's url? If your application was succesful, then you should be able to see the comic site with your sample comic on it. If that's the case, then recovering the site will be easy on the assumption that you still have the email account that you registered with.

If you don't have that email account, or it does not receive CG emails (spam blocking or something) then you will be out of luck. The email that you register with is your key to access your CG account and if you lose it (such as not logging into a hotmail account) then you will be totally out of luck.

I'd recommend that you use your main ISP email account, or one that you plan on keeping for a long time.

Well, I'm sorry for having such a late reply, I've been delayed.

I am still unable to access anything that would allow me to operate my site. I have been unsuccessful in both getting the siteadmin, or the ftp linked to in the email to work (if I can use another ftp, I don't know how). However you said that if I linked you to the comic's url, you could help me? It's:

http://bohemian.comicgenesis.com/

So if you could tell me what to do in order to get my current forum account as a siteadmin, or get the ftp to work at all, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry I'm so helpless on this issue, but I don't really understand why it's not working, so am having difficulty finding a way to fix it.

Thank you in advance!

It seems to be the case for some people that it takes a couple posts on the forums before they are able to get into siteadmin. Also, the siteadmin is case sensitive, so make sure you're typing in "Bohemian," not "bohemian."

As for the FTP, that FTP is no longer supposed to work. We just switched away from the Butch server. There's a list of nice FTP programs located here. Search around the CGWiki for tutorials on how to use them.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

Thanks for the help!
