FTP problems

Post by VinnieD »

So I'm having problems uploading. I can log in via FTP (a step up from yesterday) and I can upload new files, but I'm unable to overwrite existing files. I always get a "Permission Denied" error when I try. This leaves me unable to update my site.

Yup... That sounds about right... same problem here.
I guess the FTP problems still haven't been ironed out...

FTP works for me, good greif people copy and paste the error log so I can figure out what is broken if there is anything broken.

Yeah. It must be a common problem, since I'm getting that same error. Sorry, made a new topic before checking to see if anyone else was having problems. My bad there... But yeah, 553: permission denied error in my /public_html/images/ch1 folder.

same here. I can log in (which was not possible when there were those hiccups on the old server). But as soon as I want to do something like transfering the new indextemplate (to /workspace) or uploading today's TWC vote-preview (to /workspace/images), it tells me:
553 Can't open File: permission denied

The new comic, however, transferred ok to /workspace/comics O_o

Well, I appear to be able to upload my latest page to my workspace/comics directory, no problem, however, I can't upload anything to my workspace/data/notes or workspace/webpages.

First, I tried using FireFTP. When I try to upload to /data/notes, I get this message:
FireFTP wrote:553-Can't open that file: Permission denied 553 Rename/move failure: No such file or directory : /workspace/data/notes/20070713.txt
When I try to upload to /workspace/webpages, I get this message:
FireFTP wrote:553 Can't open that file: Permission denied : /workspace/webpages/archive.html
When I try the Keenspace Butch Sever, which in the past, has always been reliable, I get nothing. That is, after I log in; navigate to the correct directory; browse for my file; hit the upload button, stuff appears to be happening, but nothing gets uploaded. (Same two directories.)

Did my permissions get changed somehow during the move?

Thanks a bunch.

I'll blame kelly for this.

The permissions problem is caused by directly copying over the old server to the new server, which resets permissions and junk. I'll run a bulk reset AGAIN and see if that fixes it.

Well I was having this problem but just tried uploading my indextemplate.html and it actually accepted it and updated the file, something I hadn't been able to do in like 2 weeks. Hopefully this means what you did worked.

I`ll echo what many have said, unable to log into siteadmin.

The big problem is I`m travelling in another country (Canada) and thus am VERY far from my computer with all the ftp information on it. Being so used to the normal site handling page, I no longer remember the information I need to do even a basic internet explorer ftp transfer.

I wait with baited breath for a solution, that the filler art prepared ahead of time can be uploaded. Meanwhile many internet cafes will be visited....
ANYTHING is possible...within limits.
Those limits are set on ourselves by ourselves.
The trick is getting around them...

Seems to be working again. Now if the siteadmin will work again, everything will be good. I guess the update will go through on its own sooner or later though.

Doesn't work. It tells me to get "Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer or some browser that supports HTTP Authentication". Well, that's funny. I'm using Firefox (latest) and even tried it with Internet Exploiter. Same error.
