Fer serious.
Already left.

Now I am enjoying my fully operational hosted comic webspace. Lot of traffic today seems like there is less competition out there. I have jumped 2 slots on TWC
See, this I can respect. They didn't like what was going on here, so up they went and got their own place.

Anyway, I don't particularly understand why there's all this fuss. I can understand the grievances of those with paid ads, or whathaveyou, but otherwise I don't understand why this hysteria's built up over recent downtimes. It's annoying, yes, irritating. And perhaps I've lost some potential readers because of it, I don't know. The big reader spike I got from the Crossover Wars link might have all but vanished now. But, at the end of the day, I don't really mind. I enjoy doing this comic. I enjoy this community, even if I tend to sit on the sidelines rather than actively participating for the most part. A little down-time isn't going to get me to shift.

Sitting here complaining about it just makes everyone involved more stressed, and does nothing towards finding a solution. I know the CG staff are doing all they can to fix this, and that's enough for me.

As I do pay for ad space on a few places (with more lined up) and I've already got a few cons set up to further promote, I've decided to make the leap into self hosting as well... I hope to have everything up and running by the end of the weekend... this has just been too much down time too often... I love y'all here and I'll still frequent the forum.... but it's time to move on.... with all the money I'm spending on lessons, ads, cons, merch, flyers, etc... I can't afford to have potential readers/fans be turned away on first impression because the site is/was down....

I will be sure to link CG as the ultimate starting place for comics...

/rant on

ok .. i do this for fun, i render most of my comic as "fast renders" thats akin to "sketching" ive done line art for over 25 years ., thanks to a accedent it now hurts to use a pen and draw the normal way so i got into playing with poser and now Daz Studio , most dont concider what i do art , some activly hate my style ( CG comic ) but its still all mine - its not a sprite comic or something like that -

i do this for fun .. pure and simple - lets face facts people most of us are NOT going to be the next Matt Groning or whoever is hot , MOST 99% of us will NEVER do this for decent cash or as a job -

my point? Comic Genisis has made a service avalable - one that costs us little more than keeping a Ad at the top of every page - it automaticly updates . keeps a archive , and we dont have to do more than "upload" stuff .. ( for those of us who dont know jack about HTML )

i dont want to offend anyone here - i like a lot of the strips on here and other sites - BUT if you try to turn this into a "job" you might find the doing a lot more work than you wanted ...

some come now , lay off the crew here - relax they dont want us down anymore than we want being down - it happens computers break databases blow up --- its life

in anycase sorry for the rant its not aimed at really anyone -
except those who think they can support themselves and cant -

( im not counting those of you that effing rock in art and storys < you know who you are > )

WOOT! More bandwidth for me.

actually... what's funny is a max exodus from comicgenesis would probably fix a lot of the problems that are occurring.

Part of the reason why I left. Especially considering that every time I updated my archives I used the full update.

You may now rejoice.

I do this for fun as well... but if there ever is going to be a chance of doing what I love for money, it's through hard work and promotion, which I and my writer are more than dedicated to... and that's not to say that everyone needs to be of this mind set...

I had an ex that was constantly "reminding" me of how many people are out there doing what I do...

My girl now says to hell with the rest of them

And you're right... I may not be the next Matt Groening... but I am Ryan Borella...

And I may not make it to a point where I cartoon for a living... but it's not gonna stop me from trying

and the first step (other than having a comic I'm damn pleased with) is moving off the playground (no offence CG'ers) and into the real world...

i love the smell of burning silicon in the morning.

in the meantime, i advise you folks with a forum or the like to utilize services such as photobucket, and post your updates there.

Or if anyone's really stuck, PM me - I've got a bit of spare space on a dedicated server that I'm sure I could spare either on a temp/permanent basis, whatever works.

Oh, and my little 'Webgadgets' project is still in the pipeline - the actual scripts themselves (tagboard, donation bar, email feedback script, poll, etc.) are pretty much done - I'll probably spend a couple of days getting web-admin working, then it's going online. Expect news soon!

I've set up temporary headquarters at www.webcomicsnation.com. It's kinda ugly and not as flexible as CG, but it works..

If there was something up with MySQL, I'd expect Siteadmin to break. Given that the pages aren't even loading, Apache's probably gone A-over-T. Or the server has taken one look at the queue and crashed outright.

Nothing is as flexible as CG, which is why I intend to stick around to the bitter end. I do have a mirror site on DrunkDuck now, just so I can continue updating, and I've put advertising on hold (unfortunate, due to the fast approach of Connecticon), but I came to CG because the services were the best, and still are the best, outages or not. That one little ad on top of everything is pansy compared to what other servers force you to put on your site. Readers can just scroll down and forget about it, and you can still build your site to compliment your comic. So, until I can afford going indie, I'm staying put.
